I have 1997 B2500 conversion 28000 miles. I 've been getting the 0740 code for a couple of weeks but the tranny was working great. Driving home tonite the torque convertor locked up at 65mph and the OD off light came on. I stayed in third gear the whole way home (50 miles). Any thought ? Is my OD drive gone? If it's gone how long can I use the trans without fixing or before the trans gets completely FUBARed. I ran fine with just 1-2-3 gears and no other issues to speak of. I just did a trans fluid flush and filter 2 weeks ago.
Any thoughts or prior experiences would be greatly appreciated. The van is 97 5.2 and i believe its a 46re tranny.

First things first, since you just did a fluid change; have you checked the fluid level to make sure it is correct?
What fluid type did you fill it with?

Well I had the transmission looked at by my transmission guy. He replaced the Governor Pressure solenoid and went from there. He drove it with the
scanner for a few days and the situation deteriorated more. He rebuilt the tranny and found the check valve inside tranny was clogged, no lubrication was happening and it burnt up the front planetary assembly. He rebuilt it and left out the check valve and its running better than ever.

 He just left it out? There goes those engineers again, designing things with unneeded components.

I hope you have a good warranty with this for if that missing part cause it to fail you could be out some more money to get it fixed.
