Been able to easily sort out most of the problems with my van since getting it in March. This one is getting on my nerves. The A/C clutch seized up. I'm not using the air anyway. So, I thought I would just get a shorter belt and bypass the compressor. The diagram on the fan shroud shows two routing options(one with and one without a/c). I purchased a belt for my van without factory a/c. Now, I have two problems. First, the belt was too short. I can easily return it and go up a couple of inches in length. Not very concerned by that. But, the second problem I see is that when following the belt routing on the fan shroud the belt will touch itself between the idler and the power steering pump to the surface between the crank pully and the power steering pump.

Now, the question.....
Is there a smaller O.D. idler installed on models without factory air. The local parts store only lists one. Am I simply going blind? Any help with this would be greatly appreciated. I'd like to get it going again this weekend without changing the compressor.

So, right now, I'm trying to get the old bearing out of the ac pulley. Got it freed with a little brute force enough to remove it. Inner stayed on the compressor. Got the retaining ring off the pulley. Seams that it has been removed before. The inner edge of the pully has some hammer/punch marks like someone made a couple of miss hits while driving a bearing in the wrong way. This could have been what caused the failure. I'm cleaning it up with a small diamond file right now and to the press we go. Got the inner off of the compressor easy enough. Looks like I can just replace the bearing and put everything back the way it was. I hope someone has this bearing in stock. Will post the end results soon I hope. Still would like to know what the difference is between a/c and non a/c belt drives though?
