I think being the new Ram in 2012 will be front wheel drive the Diesel was not going to be a viable engine choice. The new 3.6 Pentastar engine will be the heavy duty engine with the 3.0 Pentastar as the standard engine. It does get the gas mileage they want and still can tow 1,500 lbs. The performance will remain good with 0-60 times of 10.3 seconds.

Here is the new Chevy Crew Cab 4 door. Hopefully Dodge/Fiat will have a 4 door as well.

Sorry, it was a joke based on the picture above, but not far fetched with the new constraints the feds are putting on auto builders.

Actually its the diesel engines overseas that are getting the best gas milage......

http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=+diesel+high+mpg&aq=f&oq=&aqi=

I guess they arent as cleaner burning as to why we dont use some of that technology over here,

You realize that the WV isn't a towing rig right? yea it gets 60+MPG however it can't tow for its life.

:bawl::bncry:

We need to get with it here in the US and realize that diesel is not bad, hell, Europe's had the right idea for years, clean diesel in efficient engines on lighter vehicles equals awesome MPG...as to why we can't get it right here, I will never understand.

The article I read stated that the contract the old Chrysler had didnt pass over to new Chrysler. Ill give it bit before they renew that contract.

well then tell the EPA to remove the Nazi Emissions bans let Cummins bring back the old 12v configuration so the new Truck get the 20mpg like they should.

This Emissions crap is bringing the Cummins down to the Powershit and the duracrap levels on mpg.

It will be renamed also, the ram will be replaced by the all new Dodge Lamb! Aren't you glad that now Fiat/Chrysler can start building cars that people want, I thought I wanted a full size ram but what do I know!

That is what I read also, Cummins has been expecting this and are renegotiating the contract.

American's as a whole also need to get over how diesel engines are perceived. The popular thinking is that diesels are noisy, dirty, and expensive to maintain, none of which is true. I suppose noise is individual and subjective to ones point of view, but they're still not that loud.

I'm sure the engine meets all, or is close to meeting the EPA requirements and this is all just a cost cutting measure to not build out the plants, viewed from a number crunching position as to the return on investment in vehicles sales. Basically they don't they'll sell well enough to build, which leads me back to my first point, in that the buyer for some reason wants gas over diesel.

(I would have hands down bought a diesel if offered in the 1500)

Cummins is still building the plant and the NEW Chrysler will sign a NEW contract and the 1500 diesel will be a reality in the 2011 model

i know, BUT, that truck is gonna be a DD only, i'm keepin the 24 valver...:D:D

a RC/SB 2wd six speed w/ the V6 diesel they're puttin in the 'rango would be my ideal truck though...

V-6? I though they were goign to use a standard V-8 for all the low requirements diesel options on the Chrysler Car/light duty series.

Not only that the Cummins is pushing 6000/7000lbs trucks. Lets see that VM Engine in a 7000lbs Truck and see how it does. The comparison is ignorant.

I sure would love it if they built the 1500 diesel....who knows what they will do.
