Well, after threatning to go to the local TV channel with my problems my phone started ringing.
The first was from the dealer I bought the Magnum from.
The guy said he talked to the area service rep. and he would be back here in about a week and a half.
I said that's not good enough. If he can talk to you on the phone he can talk to me or hello TV 6.
Ten minutes later the rep. called me. He was a very personable guy and asked if I could bring the car to Baton Rouge. He said he was at a Dodge dealer with a working updated Star Scanner computer. I said say no more I'm out the door.
I took off rather quickly and the tires actually chirped with the ESP on.
Hey! How about that? As usual when you bring a car in to the dealer it starts working like it should. Have no fear. It did not.
As soon as trafic would allow I came to a dead stop and used my stop watch to time the 0 to 60 mph. It was mid 7's. A hair better and that was with a little over a quarter of a tank of gas.

On the way to the dealer my Cell phone rang and it was a woman from Daimler Chrysler. She said, you called one of our engineers and he told me to call you. (I found the Chief Engineer who built the 300C and Magnum)
I said yes I did and I was hoping to talk to him.
When I told her my concerns she tried but didn't have all the answers.
When I got to the dealer they put it on the computer and while I was waiting I looked at a Magnum RT just like mine. I asked if I could drive it so I could compare it to mine. He said sure. I'll get the keys.
When I cranked it up I noticed the low fuel light was on. Before I put it in gear IT RAN OUT OF FUEL!!!!! Can you believe it?? I'm bit! No doubt!!

The service manager came over and I said tell me you found the problem!
No such luck! My car had all the updates. He said there were a few codes but nothing that had any thing to do with performance. I said, Now what?

He said he would talk with the area rep, he was gone when I got there, and get back to me. BUMMER!

About 5 minutes away the area service rep. calls and says I just taked with the service manager why don't you bring it back and we'll give you a loaner and we'll get to the bottom of this. Since I knew they wouldn't work on it over the weekend and we were going to Florida I said how about Monday?
He said Ok!

Just a little while ago I called the Chief Engineer again and he answered the phone. I went over all the issues with him and it was kinda funny because after I was through he said, can I ask you a question? I said sure.
He said besides those issues how do you like the car?
I told him you should be proud! You built one hell of an automobile and I love it.
I love the way it rides, drives, looks and also how solid it feels.
He said, good, I'm glad to hear that. He took the VIN, names, phone numbers and said he would get with the other engineers because, Listen up owners and future owners, He has NEVER driven a 300C or magnum with the Hemi that would not light up the tires with the ESP off!!
We also discussed the tow package and he told me the most important thing is the suspension option not the cooling. The Hemi's all come with the heavy duty radiator, not the one that will come with the Tow Package but it will serve the purpose. The package also has different fans!!
Anyway, he said with the independant rear suspension it's very important to keep it level because of the stress it would put on the shafts.
He said it consists of load leveling shocks and should not be a problem to have them put on at a :) dealer.

I also asked him about the 6.1 Hemi coming out and what did they do to the engine besides making it bigger to jump to 425 HP.
He said there was quite a few modifications including headers but that it was not going to have the MDS for fuel economy and don't hold me to this but I also believe he said it was not going to have ESP either.

He also told me that the posi rear end on the Hemi's works by the brakes being applied by computer. I said you mean it doesn't have clutches in the rear end like other posi's? He said no it does not. I said it seems to me that would slow it down. He said yeah, but very little.

Well, I guess I bent everyones ear enough for now. I'll keep everyone updated.

thanks for sharing all of that info... i am buying a magnum tomorrow...moving out of a grand caravan... a little concerned that is is not as practical...but i love hearing about the discussion with the engineer and the info on the tow package... the one i am buying doesn't have the tow option (obviously) and i definately want to add the load leveling suspension... glad to hear the shocks are easily replaceable..

keep us posted of any further conversations...

I'm glad to hear you're finally getting some positive attention. Have fun with that loaner vehicle. Tell them you want an SRT-10 or a Viper.

Well, things haven't changed. They had my RT for four days and could not find anything not up to specs.
The Svc. Mng. drove and the Area Svc.Rep. did the timing. The Best they could do is 0 to 60mph was 7.1 seconds.
They also tried another RT they had at the dealership and that one didn't do any better. They couldn't get either one to Chirp the tires.
I was told by the Area Svc Rep that Chrysler never said it would do 6.3. It was the auto Mags.
When I told him Chrysler articles and advertisements showed 6.3 he then started talking professional drivers, ideal conditions Yadda, Yadda BS.
I said you can have anyone you want drive my RT. I don't think you can make it go 6.3
He said it's not broke and we're not going to replace it!!
That's fine. I'll just do what I have to do.
I've already sent 20/20 a letter.
I don't understand why 135 lbs will make that much difference between the C and the Magnum.
I called Motor Trend and was told all their tests are done with a full tank of gas.
In their May issue they have a C doing 0 to 60 in 5.8
My tank had fumes when I was trying my 0 to 60 mph times.
I'm totaly disgusted with Chrysler. It's too bad they don't spend more of their ad money on customer service.
Now my speakers are going on and off at fairly high volumes!!! Give me a break!!

I just got off the phone with the Chief Engineer.
He told me to make sure I run 89 octane, I've been running 87, and he said it really is true about the break in. He said that their test vehicles have about 4000 mi on them.
I told him about the guy in MI going 13.8 in the quarter and he mentioned how hot it was where I am.
I also told him about a guy on dodgemagnum.net that only has 600 mi on his RT and he says he can light the tires and get 6 sec to 6.5 second 0 to 60 times with a 1/2 tank of gas and 125 lb tool box in the back.
He asked where he lived but I didn't know.(Temp)

I asked him why they governed the top speed (4400rpm 126mph it's all over)
He said the reason is the tires. Their 128 mph rated tires.
I admit I never looked to see what the rating was.
I didn't ask but I guess they didn't run higher rated tires to keep the cost down. Too bad they didn't make it an option! Then they could have removed that software. Maybe someone will have an aftermarket fix.

So, I will wait and see if it wakes up after it gets some more miles on it.

Now, if I could just get the other side of the Chrysler house to do something about the towing package they assured me my Magnum had installed on it.

Well I have an update regarding 0-60 time testing with a RT that has 1700 miles on it, the car listed on the delivery papers that it weighed 4161 pounds.
I have had 250 pounds of cargo behind the rear seat since I bought it for work, plus my weight, plus a full tank of gas, for a grand total of 4,865 pounds. I can consistently get 0-60 times of 6.5/6.6 sec from a stand still using a stop watch, with ESP off, and temperature of mid 70's in the Chicago area. The main problem is getting the car to hook up without busting the tires loose, or you just slide sideways to the right before moving forward. BTW: I run premium 93 octane from Mobil.

All I can say is they must have improved the cars because mine won't even chirp the tires unless I brake torque the car.

As I told someone else on this forum, consider yourself lucky that your car performs like it should.

P.S. where are you in Chicago? I was born and raised. Lane tech.

Well, I feel for you, Herb. But I really think you should get the gas low, throw in 5 gallons of 93 octane, and pound the crap out of the car for about 50 miles, and see how it starts driving.

87 octane & even 89 octane in warmer weather can throw these big hp V8's into the low timing tables in the PCM, and it just really takes a toll on their performance.

Heck, it's worth the $10 in 93 octane gas to try it out.

Dodge Magnum is the new shape of American muscle," said Dieter Zetsche, President and CEO of the Chrysler Group. "With its innovative packaging, performance and utility, there's nothing else like it. While Chrysler Pacifica is the premium sports tourer, Dodge Magnum is the performance sports tourer that packs a powerful punch and the functionality of an all-wheel drive sport utility. Armed with HEMI Inside and rear-wheel drive, Dodge Magnum delivers power in a package that offers unmatched flexibility and versatility."

While the Dodge Magnum SRT-8 is a concept vehicle, it provides a strong hint at the first version of Chrysler Group's much-anticipated next-generation of rear-wheel drive "LX" vehicles. A production version similar to the Dodge Magnum SRT-8 concept vehicle will go on sale in 2004 under the Magnum name.

The legendary engine that powered Dodge's muscle cars of the 1960s has been re-engineered and reborn as a modern, high-performance, fuel-efficient and durable powerplant known as the all-new 5.7-liter HEMI V-8. The Dodge Magnum SRT-8 concept vehicle features a supercharged version of the 5.7-liter HEMI, churning out an estimated 430 horsepower and 480 lb.-ft. of torque.
