Long story somewhat short van was running fine parked went into a place came out 1 hour later and it wouldn't start. had it towed in thinking to myself the fuel pump went out. mechanic said the computer wouldn't communicate with the scanner so the ecm was bad. got a new ecm and still nothing. So now it's at the dodge dealer waiting for them to look at it. I'm very frustrated as I have $500 in it already with no changes, it still won't start. the van has 13000 miles and is a 5.9. anyone with any suggestions? it has the black keys so no chip in key correct? I told the mechanic to check the ignition switch and he said he would yesterday. please help!

Thanks in advance

Your mechanic should of checked for power to the PCM before replacing it. If that turns out to be the problem I would ask for money back.
If it does have an imobiliser the PCM would have to be reflashed to work.

I'd first check for any blown fuses under the hood. If they're all fine then I'd replace the ASD relay under the hood.

I guess the imobiliser is the security system? my van does have keyless entry via remote on keychain but no chirp when i lock it so I didn't think it had an alarm? I bought a remanufactured ecm and had to give them my vin, mileage, and actual part number off of my original ecm. They told me it would be programmed for my van with all new chrysler updates. would this still need to be reflashed? I'm at a loss on this and so is my mechanic, he went and towed my van back to his place since dodge can't get to it till monday and is checking out th ignition switch.

No, you should only have to mount it and plug in the connectors.

just talked to mechanic again and now they tell me there is no power getting to the ecm, my response was why didn't they check that before I bought a new ecm:mad: so any ides as to what it could be? they did try a new asd relay and it didn't help. This sucks

Have your mechanic check for constant power to the PCM on A-22 pin (Comes from fuse 17 or 18 and is a 20 amp fuse in the Power Distribution Center) of the A-connector and power with the key "on" on A-2 pin.

update
my mechanic has givin up and said he doesn't have the proper equipment to run diagnostics with. he recomended an auto electric place I have never heard of. He thinks it is either the instrument cluster or the central timer module? I have keyless entry but no alarm that i know of, does my van have a central timer module if it doesn't have an alarm? Needless to say I'm mad, it's been a week and a half already with no progress. could it be the cluster? if I get a cluster from a junkyard will it work or will it need to be programmed by a dodge dealer? please help!

My van has the timer module set up and it does not work, I have no problem starting and using my van. The timer module circuit has not worked for over the past year that I have owned my van.

The instrument cluster only tells the driver what is happening. It does not send information back to the PCM in order to run the engine.

The ignition key does tell the PCM to run the engine and activate the starter motor.

I take it that he did not check for the voltages on the A-2 and A-22 pins. These would tell him if the PCM has the power it needs in order to run.

I'm not really sure if he checked it or not at this point? I will never take another car to this garage again. My dodge dealer is not any better. I normally do all my own work but when it comes to needing a obd scanner or other diagnostic tools I don't have the proper equipment.

Right now the tool needed is a good DVM (Digital Volt-ohm Meter). You can test for power on the two pins already mentioned.

If you want to tackle this and want the PCM schematics send me your email by PM and I will take screen shots from my laptop and send them to you. They are three pages and each page I may have to break up in to three sections. All you would need to do is piece them back together and use a color printer to print them out.

as of now I don't have time at all to do it myself I wish I did. I'm moving into a different house, trying to fix a few things on my old house to sell it, trying to work without my van, dealing with a death in my wifes family, I just reworked the brakes on my chevy pickup last night so i could drive it since my van is down ( calipers were sticking bad) so my life is very full at the moment. I called the garage that sucks and my van will be towed to a reputable place this morning and they will look at it right away so I'm hoping they find whats wrong. I'll keep my fingers crossed. I really appreciate your suggestions and help. if you can think of anything else please let me know.

Well, I finally got my van fixed. Turned out to be 2 wires were rubbed through in the dash around the engine cover area. Mechanic said it happened because dodge routed the wire harnes poorly and it rubbed on an ac line. cost me $400 in labor OUCH! On the advice from the first garage (that I'll leave nameless) I ordered a new computer which I didn't need. I tryed to return it and the place told me pretty much to F off . So I raised hell with the first garage and told them I was out $300 on their bad advice and they say they will reimburse me for the computer but I'll believe it when the money is in my hand.
anyway thought I would share my adventure. If anyone lives near Evansville Indiana
I highly recomend a garage called The Answer East. I paid alot of labor $$$ to them but at least they fixed it and didn't give up like the first morons. Very professional place, even called me every day to give me updates.
