This seems like a stupid question, but does anyone know how to change the driver's side fog lamp bulb in a 1999 Neon? It should be simple -- just give the bulb a quarter turn and pull it out. But there is not enough room behind the bracket to pull the bulb out.

On the passenger side, I had to remove the entire bracket (only one bolt) to gain enough clearance to free the bulb and insert the new one. However, on the driver's side, there is a black box (computer? data recorder? fuse box?) mounted directly behind the bolt that holds the fog lamp bracket in place. In fact, this box is mounted so tightly that it has an indention molded into it to provide room for the bolt holding on the fog lamp bracket.

I looked at removing the "black box", but this even seemed quite a challenge to wriggle a socket in there to get it loose. Please, someone tell me I'm overlooking something simple and obvious. I can't seriously believe that changing a stinking light bulb can be so difficult!

It's not a stupid question, I would look in the owners manual and see what it says, they seem to have the best way of getting the hard to do things figured out. Good luck.

I contacted Dodge both at the dealership and through their web site. Neither was particularly enlightening. I learned that the "black box" in this case houses the PCM. As for changing the bulb, I gave in and removed the whole front fascia (6 hex-head bolts and 8 torx screws) and PCM (two hex-head bolts) so I could get to the fog lamp (1 hex-head nut) to change the bulb. What brilliant engineering this was!
