Are you sure your getting fuel? Are you getting spark to plugs?.

Tell us what you have done to diagnose your problem, give us all the info you have, ie when it started acting up, changes that have been made. Just anything that will help us figure things out.

It started out driving fine, purchased the truck last year, somebody did a pretty good job restoring the truck. new carb (which i've since rebuilt) new Dist. While driving, after the truck warms up it will just bog down, you have to let off the gas to get the engine back to normal idle, if you press the gas it will bog until it stalls. I threw a bunch of stuff at it, new mechanical fuel pump, all new fuel lines from the sending unit to the fuel pump, new filter. new carb mounting gasket, fresh plugs and wires. I've had a current chrysler tech look at it (for the bogging problem) and he couldnt give me a reason why. One night it just bogged down and wouldnt not start from there. I have done much to diag the no spark problem yet. The truck just depresses me. I believe i took over someone else's headache!

first do a compression check, if that checks out right put it at TDC compression and check to see where your rotor is pointing. Do you know if your getting good spark? Which fuel filter did you replace, its been along time since I had a slant 6 but if I remember right:dunno: it had a filter in the carb also. I would also see how many cranks it takes it to fill have of a 12 ounce bottle with fuel.

for the bogging problem--make sure your choke is working properly.i have an 82 that does that.in my case it is the choke shaft has come loose and the choke butterfly will flap shut.this will cause the truck to sputter, lose power and sometimes die.then again you can hit a bump in the road and the butterfly will open and the truck will run great.that electronic feedback carb is a p.o.s.
as for the spark problem does it still have the infamous "lean burn" or "electronic spark control" computer?they are notorious for problems.many people refit with a standard electronic ignition.
the folks over at slantsix.org have lots of tips on doing this.

All very good starting points. You've been the most help out of anybody yet. I've had quite a few mechanics look at this truck, and it has everybody stumped, one of which is a master tech at a dodge dealer (and the most productive guy there) If you are ever in Detroit the beers are on me!
Thanks

don't give up on your truck.a well running slant is a joy to drive, very smooth acceleration.if you have the resources or ability you may look into doing a conversion to a two barrel intake and carb known as the "super six" it will wake that engine up a bit.
OR
i had a 74 d-100 that i installed a 2 barrel carb(carter bbd)on using an adapter from transdapt(#2025 IIRC it lists as small 4 barrel to 2 barrel adapter).the gas mileage stayed the same 15-16 around town but top speed went from about 70 to 85-90.if you are interested, let me know.i'll fill you in on my experience with it.
btw thanks for the feedback.

I reread your first post and here is something that might help, I have an 86 v8 but it may be of help. I had the same issue with it once. On it i had to put a screen going in the vapor line going from the carb to the charcoal canister because it was sucking some of the charcoal into the carb and plugged up my jets and passages in the carb so no fuel was getting into the engine, it would idle fine because it was enough to idol and every so often it would pass enough to run but then it would do like yours is doing. I would let off the pedal and it would go back to an idol but would just die out on me if I gave it to much pedal. Take the carb off and use an air gun to blow out all the passages on the carb, blow them out from throttle bore area first so you blow the crap out not from the jets first. Hope this is of some help.

Ive re-built that damn carb three times now. Replaces all the fuel lines, filter, sending unit, and the sending unit.
I got her running again, the plugs where terrrrible, only been in there for about a month, replaced the coil also. driving it daily for a week now, with no problem yet. knock on wood.
i actually just sold my offenhauser 4bbl, id much rather have a 2bbl set up. I think i should swap out for a better ignition system. How do i tell if i have the lean burn set up? is that possible for a 87?

look in your driver side fender, there is a box with wires plug into it, thats a lean burn computer, I put in a HEI setup in my 86 dodgeram, with all the parts it was a 10min swap.

Ive been on the look out for a super six set up, i cant seem to find anything for a decent price. How much of a pain was it to remove the stock intake? The bolts look like they'd be pretty well seized!

heat up then spray good rust eater on them then do it again. I couldnt find a super six set up so i built this one for $80
