The steering gear in my 69 W100 is shot. Can get a rebuilt online or have mine rebuilt for around $300 exchange, but was wondering if I, as a hack do it yourselfer might be able to rebuild it myself with parts purchased online. Haven't been able to find a rebuild kit perse, but was wondering if I would if I might be able to purchase the individual parts...If so, could someone point me to a website where I could do this? And let me know which specific parts I would need to do this? My Chiltons indicates a Ross24J as the OE gear in it now. Would appreciate any help with this problem. Also, is there really a danger in driving it the way it is (extremely loose!)?

The gear in my 68 D100 has had it too, I found a guy that can rebuild mine for around 300 ish which is pretty reasonable, through sweptline.org, I think it was. Trouble is I live in France & the shipping costs would be enormous. I'd also like to convert to power steering, so I'll probably end up going to the local truck breakers yard & finding something I can adapt. Best of luck with it.

I found the same thing. $300.00 or there abouts. However, a friend of mine, Dodge man...suggested I put a steering shock on it, which mounts on the tierod, and put gear grease in the box instead of 80/90. This fix is working great for me. Might want to try it...Thanks for your response.

Hmm, that sounds interesting Mike, can you pm me some details of the shock & what grease you used. Thanks.
