I wanted to post a thread about Thermo-Quads. I have been a Mopar guru my whole life and started tinkering with them when I was 13 years old. ALL of my old Mopars I had, had TQ's on them, from Imperials to New Yorkers to Newports. I am an absolute wizard with them and I have all the skills necessary to bring a dead TQ back to life, as I have done so many many times. The last mopar I have today is a 1978 Power Wagon 400 BB with the original TQ on it, stock jetted & still able to feed the modded 400 easily without batting a butterfly :D

Anyways, I just wanted all fellow DT members who have TQ's and don't know what to do with them, to know that you can look to me for help. There isn't nothing about a TQ I don't know. I urge you to keep your truck original if you can, as the TQ carburetor is become more & more rare as time goes by, and fewer and fewer people who know how to handle them. They have had their fair share of mistreatment, but don't let that stop you if you want to keep your truck original.

Cool, I may pick your brain a few times then :) I have a TQ that I went through and built, but it still didn't seem to work right, didn't want to run off the choke IIRC.

COOL/thanks; ive always had great service out of TQs as well BUT everything has to be right with them; linkage adjustments and such; Most people I know hate em; I re did one for someone else about 10 years ago that was a parts store reman, and it was JUNK; cracks in the bowl that the reman company tried to fix them with some sort of epoxy; I found the chunks of epoxy floating in the bowl; back then there was a place in St Louis that had a stockpile of original TQ bowls so I replaced the bowl (~$40 back then) and the thing never ran so good. The 2 I have apart now have good bowls;
I just got the base plates back from being re bushed. one will find its way to my 83 D 250 (318, Magnum heads, 360 cam, headers, Performer intake) when I get them reassembled. That motor currently has a 625 AFB on it that needs some "tweaking" to make it run how I want it to.
Both TQs I have are the same number, (9265S, IIRC) I know the OE app for them both is '80 360 truck non California.

Oldblue,

Glad to learn of another T-Q restorer who isn't afraid of 'em!

Better tell folks why the later ones don't idle properly and what to do about it. I find that this is one of the biggest obstacles to a successful restoration of a late '70s era T-Q. :teacher:

I have one on mine still, but the only aftermarket manifold I can find that it'll fit is the Performer, so it will lose out to a square-bore of some variety.

Mopar makes a M1 intake w/ the spread-bore pattern.

BTW,

If anyone is about to throw one of those hateful old cast iron 400 T-Quad manifolds (perhaps with a '78 date code?) into the dumpster, I will take it off your hands for the cost of shipping. I might even throw in a couple of extra bucks if I'm feeling generous . . . ;)

I just happen to have one off of a 78 Newport and the matching carb.
Still have the engine and 727 tranny too. Around 85000 miles on them.
Engine has E-brock performer intake, matching cam, Indy cylinder heads with stainless valves, bronze guides and springs for up .509 lift. Mopar performance ignition. Hasn't been run since stuff installed. Sold car, kept motor and tranny. Had already put cam in when I pulled heads and saw the cyl. walls were glazed so bolted the heads on to have a place to put them.
Also have original air cleaner and dist.
