I'm doing the conversion on my 84 D150 with 318, I had the Electronic Fuel Control Computer with dual pickup distributor and feedback Carburetor. I now have a remanufactured single pickup dizzy and a remanufactured Carter 2bbl carb. for a 1972 Plymouth Satellite. Actually I have a couple of questions, first, what gap should I have in the dizzy pickup? And, this carb came with no instructions or diagram, does any one know where I can get those? My big concern is adjusting mixture, if necessary. Thanks in advance. ~John

The air gap on the dist should be .008 .... Make sure you use a brass (Non magnetic) feeler gauge when setting this.

What kind of carb is it? I'm sure one of us have something.
There is basically only four things you can adjust..
High idle speed (When the choke is being used)
Curb idle speed (Normal idle)
And your two idle mixture screws (Should be in front at base of carb)

Thanks bherder for the info on the distributor. The carb is a remanufactured Carter 2bbd done by United Carburetor in Chicago. It really is straight forward, as you said there are only four adjusting screws, the idles and the mixture screws on the base. Based on advice from others I ordered a early 70's model 2 barrel to replace the solenoid ladened carb that was on the engine for computer input. My only confusion is the mixture screws and what I'm looking for to determine if any adjustment is necessary. ~John

I thought the air gap was .016?

As for the mixture screws, they are the ones in the base facing forward. 2 turns out is usually a good baseline. The screws on the linkage are the curb idle and fast idle.

You'll have to tweek things a little bit .... I don't think there's ever been a carb right out of the box where everything was adjusted perfectly ;)

No there are to many variables for that to happen. Elevation, humidity, quality of fuel all of these will make a difference in how a carb should be adjusted. So without a o2 censor to gauge the mixture its gonna have to be done (adjusting) by trail and error.
