The shop just kept putting it off and I'm getting anxious with summer around the corner...
So I'm getting her back in my drive-way. I plan on using a haywire kit, any tips about installing a new harness?
How long does that usually take anyhow?

Check the pick up in the distributor to make sure the wires going to it aren't broken. Also the grounds are crucial. Make sure the control module is grounded very well. Check the ballast block. If it is bad no spark. Also if there is a condenser on the coil make sure it isn't bad because if it failed shorted it will kill the spark. If you have a tachometer installed unhook it. I had one fail and it shorted to ground and killed the spark. Also have you tried a different control module? Also the air gap between the reluctor and the pick up in the distributor may be too wide. What kind of shape are the cap and rotor in? Check resistance of the coil wire to dist cap.Check the fuses. Check the coil for the primary and secondary resistance. Are you getting the voltage to the primary side of the coil? Just throwing out some ideas to check before you re wire. Would suck to rewire and still have the issue.

Something else to check that I didn't think of is the electrical connectors at the fire wall. There could be corrosion in there. Could also be something like the ignition switch. Also the starter relay can cause issues. Just trying to help out.

Firewall connection problems are common on these trucks.

Run a wire from the positive battery terminal to the pos. on the coil see if it will start. If it does install a ballast into that wire to cut the voltage down and drive it home. This will also help you to diagnose your problem.

As a note, if the engine isn't grounded to the frame prperly, it's won't start even with this method.
