check the hinges; yeah you replaced the door but most likely used the old hinges from one of them; no sense shimming for slop!!! also how old are those weathjerstrips? I just replaced mine a few months back; a few aftermarket co's make them, NOS ones show up sometimes too.

If the door has slop in it where you can move the door up and down with the hinges tight then you need to replace either the hinges or simply replace the pins and bushings. They can be got in the help section of most any parts store. Volaredon is right aboout the wing glasses they will need new rubbers to get a tight seal.

Somrthing is seriously wrong if the door has to be shimmed to fit correctly, does it look to be wrecked in the cowl area?

Did you replace the door? I swapped out the doors on my '72, and neither would fit just right. I put the original passenger door back on and it swings shut like a brand new one. Just one of those oddities I reckon.

I think to really get new doors right, they should be installed and matched to the cab, and set to swing shut right, then adjust the fenders to match. Probably how it was done at the factory.

Speed your right, you always start your adjustment from a fixed panel such as the cab corner, adjust the door to the cab then the fender to the door.

i took a pic but have to wait till i can put it on here.it is on the bottom hinge and it is missing the bolt that is by itself.the other 2 bolts are the ones with a extension on it,the bolts are in a up/down line.all 3 bolts is like this >.the bottom bolt extension is get this a battery terminal.the door has a big gap on the side of the door at bottom,at the rain guard it is a tighter fit.i will post the pic later.thanks

I just replaced hinge pins and bushings on my 97 Dakota. I had unbolted the door from the hinges in order to get to the hinges. After I had drilled out the holes to the right size to fit the pins and bushings that I got at Napa, I reattached the door. after tightening everything, the door still hit hard like you are talking about. I had to loosten all of the bolts and put a jack with a pad on it under the door closer to the hinge side of the door, jack it up, then tighten the bolts. once i had done that, everything lined up right, and it shut smoothly.
