Question 1: I have an air cleaner with "snorkel" and air temp sensor. My question is shouldn't there be a tube running from the snorkel to the exhaust manifold? On every vehicle that i've seen this system on the tube was there but I cant seem to find where one would go.

Question 2: Should my engine have an o2 sensor? If so where would it be located because i've looked all over and can't seem to find one.

There is supposed to be a tin heat stove around one manifold w/ a round outlet for the tube to hook to that runs to the air cleaner.

And it will only have an )2 if it has a feedback carb, ie if it has the Lean Burn system on it.

If it does have the lean burn geet rid of it. Install a electronic ignition setup with a vacuum advance canister, and a non feed back carb from a earlier 318.

Thanks! As far as I can tell it doesn't have lean burn on it. I didn't see a place to connect the heat stove but ill check again just to be sure.

Yeah as Speed says .... There should be (And 'Should Be' ain't always 'Is') a sheet-metal whossit around the exhaust manifold.. (They rust and fall off, OR the previous owner yanked it off, because one of bolt-ears broke and it was rattling around)

Anyway, when the engine is cold, there is a vacuum-actuated flap in the snorkel so that the air intake will pull air from around the exhaust manifold. Hot air. There should be a temp sensor in the air filter housing that will sense the hot air... Open another valve, which will let engine vacuum to the solenoid on the snorkel, which will move a flap, that will change the air intake from being pulled around the manifold to (Theoretically ;) ) cold air....

This is a great thing for when you live where I do and temps are below freezing for a good hunk of the year, so as to help the carb/manifold heat up quick, with no icing ... If you're in AL. .... I'll take a WILD guess and predict it doesn't get that cold there very often ... ;)

Unless you need it for 'smog' inspection ... Where you're at ... I wouldn't even worry about it.
If you DO need one... You can get one from a junk yard or you can get a 'universal' type at an auto parts store ..

O2 sensor .... I would THINK an 84' would have one, but don't take my word for it... Look down around where the Y-pipe comes together. Possibly on the passenger side. There may not be a sensor in it, but you may see a fitting in the exhaust pipe with a plug in it...

Actually, the flap is normally closed, vacuum is applied to open it and pull hot air off the manifold.

Yeah, well, something like that ... :D:D:D
It's a 50/50 shot on me remembering the right way ;)
