I got my little 77 D150 running and it sounds great. Now the problem I have to beat is the wiring harness. Of course the first thing is the amp gauge problem but the rest of the harness is all cobbled up too. For some reason the connectors at the firewall have been taken loose and fixed with jumpers for each wire instead of just plugged in. Lots of the same kind of stuff inside too. So I would like to replace it all. Is there a good aftermarket wiring harness made for this truck. Does anyone have a good used complete wiring harness they want rid of? If I can't find something made for the truck I will probably just buy some hot rod wiring kit like I used in my 34 Ford and just wire it like a street rod.
Opinions? Offers? Thanks.

i'm installing a haywire harness in my 78 and its coming along great i'm just a procrastinator (spelling) i went with a series E universal harness. i'm changing a few things but all in all i'm pleased with it so far and its likt $210.00 opposed to a $400 ron francis or painless. I've heard guys say that the painless harness is far from painless on these trucks. What sold me on the Haywire harness was that when i call haywire i talk to Ken and only Ken he's the owner and he won't let anyone else do the tech support on them. the other manufacturers you talk to whoever answers the phone that time, i'm sold on this harness and Ken really knows his stuff.

In the process of installing painless right now. Once you rip out the original harness you will be glad you went new. A lot of hidden problems, not to mention brittle wires and bad connections! I all of a sudden have a horn, interior dome light, reverse lights (not with a mind of their own like they used to). Keep in mind as well that when you do it everything becomes cleaner looking as well. I spent the extra money and got the powerbraid ... very clean looking. I think the book said 20 hours ... probably not far off by the time I finish ... hard to keep track of actual work and routing wires. A service manual is a must and hopefully your truck isn't as hacked up as mine was! I think most people want to ask ... would you do it again ... YES - it is almost neccesary with some of these old trucks. It is also a good time to look into ignition switch and directional harness (I changed both). Good Luck!

i used some of my old harness in the cab, such as the plugs and wiring that runs from the heater switch to the relay in the heater box and i'm using part of the harness for the transfer pump switch. I changed my headlight and dimmer light to GM switch for direct plug in and my column is a saginaw column which uses the same plugs as GM i'm also going to remake and reuse my cruise and wiper harness but once the old harness was out. I agree it made a worl of difference and you can spend the time to clean it up and do it right.

i rewired my truck because I had some of the same issues as you...the previous owner had cobbled a whole bunch of crap together it make it work...and it worked, for a minute.....
I got my wiring harness from www.mopartruckparts.com
It's basically just a factory replacement harness, wouldn't even know it was new cept it's not covered in dust yet...the main wiring harness in the cab cost me $275 and the engine harness was $150 i believe....so like i said, the previous owner had it all jacked up..
