Was stopped on a hill let out the clutch and BANG no more clutch
85 dodge ram 250 royal se 4 speed 4 wheel drive 318 cid how much trouble am i looking at to fix myself i can turn a wrench but have not done this before

it takes time but not real "difficult"; borrow a trans jack or rent one at the local yard; youll be glad you did;

Hmm, clutches don't usually go bang, something else may have broke.

Probably the throwout bearing grenaded. Either way you need to pull the trans. Before you do however, check your linkage to be sure something didn't just disconnect.

I had a clutch "Bang" out on me once. Side stepped her at 5 G's. Knocked the center right out of it. (....young & stupid....) :crazy:
You'll also have to borrow or buy a clutch alignment tool.

the last two clutches that I bought came with their own plastic aligning tools

I had never rebuilt or replaced an engine or clutch before, but my first time doing it, both the engine swap and the clutch replacement went smoothly.

I would also check the pilot bushing/bearing, clutch fork and fork pivot ball for wear while you have the tranny out, if it has a pilot bearing I would change it while you have everything apart(jmo). Good luck.
