I have a 1974 dodge d300 2wd 4 speed manual with a 360 (not the original motor) i bought this truck from my uncle who didn't know left from right about dodges it had weak breaks so he did some jerry rigin and got :mad:mad and sold it to me for $1500:D. It has no brakes goes right to the floor. So i bleed the brakes with my dads help and the fluid just kinda feel out so i said must be the brake booster so i bought one put it on no help so i put a new master cylinder on it and now it has brakes kinda when you hit the brake pedal it goes about 6 inches and starts to stop and then the rear brakes lock up and the pedal sticks have to pull it up with your foot. i bench bleed the master cyl. and then re-bleed the brakes when you look at the carb and hit the brakes a puff of smoke comes up i've all ready put $600 dollars in it and cant drive it
Im clueless!!
please help any advice would be great!!:help:

Could be a bad proportioning valve.

A puff of smoke like you described is fluid being drawn out of the MC through the brake booster and into the intake, however that smoke should present it self via the tailpipe as it's being burned through combustion.

I would check the proportioning valve to be sure it's centered and allowing fluid through both brake circuits and then I would suspect your booster is in bad shape.

Well i belive i fixed the prob. it was alot of stuff the m.c. gasket was bad (new), the lines rusted (they were hidden) and the fittings were striped and we had to adjust the piece inside the brake booster out some. also got it runing great could pull down a house !! IT HAS 4.11 GEARS and bulldog so its a real dog! Thanks alot for the help.
