I can already hear the Power Wagon guys telling me they are not the same vehicle (one is a rock climbing beast and one is for racing across the sand)- so lets just leave that simple fact alone.

I think both vehicles have a lot of promise. The biggest thing the Raptor has for it is the 6.2 V-8 that will be released later this year. If they were smart and made it in a 4 door, it would be a huge competitor for the Power Wagon.

The Power Wagon will be huge because of all the obvious facts (lockers, winch, 4.56 gears, disconnecting sway bar, skid plate, etc). What I think will hurt the Power Wagon when folks compare it to the Raptor is the Hemi- it just doesn’t put out the same amount of power, yet it’s a heavier vehicle.

I have to be honest, while I’m 90% sure I’ll be buying a 2012 Power Wagon, I am going to have to take a serious look at the Raptor. I don’t do any rock crawling, I’m more of a back roads and washboard roads driver. I think both will be great for the truck market, whether you’re a Ford or a Dodge guy. Too bad Chevy can’t figure this stuff out and join the crowd.

They will actually be very similar in power. The 6.2 Ford is supposed to make 400 HP, and the 5.7 Hemi in the '09 Ram makes 390 HP. The Dodge will have 4.56 gears, and the Ford will have ?.?? gears, so they may be very similar in that aspect. But that is the only aspect they will be similar.

The Raptor is 7" wider than a regular F-150, which puts it almost in the one ton dually width category. When was the last time you've driven down a back road with a dually truck? How long did the paint on those fenders last? For that matter, even the Powerwagon is too big to really go anywhere offroad. So even the lockers, swaybar disconnect, and winch to a lesser degree, are a waste of money. Unless you don't care about having paint that is destroyed by brush scratches you're not going to take either truck too far into the back country. So in that case, get the Raptor, because at least it has better suspension for the more open high speed roads.

Actually I think they're both fantastic trucks. I would be totally happy with either one of them.

MoparToYou- good points on the HP for each engine. I think weight will be a big factor when it comes to performance. I think the Raptor is running 4.10 gears, which gives the Power Wagon another edge. Each truck is awsome for what it is built for, but each serves a different purpose. If the Raptor ever gets made in a true 4 door, I will consider it. However, with two kids on the way, I will need a true back seat, and the Mega is just too damn big when its time to go play in the woods.

I like the Raptor too! im interested to see were the 6.2 boss is gonna make power. The only thing i didnt like about my hemi was it made the most power in the upper rpms so it wasnt that great for towing

The HEMI in the PowerWagon, which is the HD trucks as of now is going to be detuned to around 360-370HP. Perhaps to protect the transmission because of the heavier truck its hauling around. I'm quite sure the 6.2 BOSS will have the same "feel" of lack luster low end because of torque management. The hemi is quite capable of tons of low end, but the torque management limits the throttle to protect the drive line.

But like it was said earlier, if you want to do rock crawling, you really do not want a big 4 door truck.

Towing capacity for the Raptor is only 6000 lbs. I have heard that the limiting factor is the load carrying capacity of the rear suspension. The suspension for the Raptor is meant to work well off road, and not necessarily carry weight.

Still not happy with crew cab only option. Even though the bed is 6'3", I think this makes the truck too long and too heavy. I currently own an 05 QC power wagon and it is already long and heavy. I actually made a mistake in an earlier post believing that crew cab beds were the same as the 1500 series.

From the rumors over at the Raptor furums the 6.2L Ford may not come to fruition. It may only be offered with the enimic 5.4L if the truck even makes it to production. I will be surprised to see either a 4th gen PW or the Raptor in this market & administration.

Either way comparing the two is like comparing a step ladder to an extension ladder. Both are ladders and can do some things equally as good but each of them have their advanatages and disadvantages and in life can not do all things in of itself. That is why any self respecting do-it-yourselfer needs both. So I guess I will have to hit the lottery and by a Raptor so I can have both trucks;).

I've read those rumors as well when it comes to the 6.2L engine.

As far as production, we would see the PowerWagon before the Raptor. The PowerWagon is a 2500 with extra features. The Raptor is a whole new animal.

Just my two pennies. :SPIN:

Just a heads up, the Ford 'Hurricane' 6.2 will be making waay more than 400 hp. The new five oh is coming out in the 2011 mustang I believe and that will be hitting 400 hp...look for near 450+ IMO with the 6.2

6.2 is confirmed. The big question on the ford forums now is whether it will find its way into the regular f150 (it will be in the superduties). Especailly now that the new 5.0 is coming out.
