I read the 300 does 0-60 in 5.6 seconds and the Magnum does it in 6.3. Just wondering why the 300 is so much faster. Different gearing? Lighter?

Weight is definately a factor.I've read a few performance reviews that had the Magnum at 5.9 or 6 flat.

I would say the Magnum has a couple hundred pounds on the 300, due to the larger body.... therefore the slightly slower 0-60 times... as far as I have seen they both have the same 2.82 rear gears...

I don't know if I ever answered you on this but the Magnum is only about 100 lbs heavier. The gearing and everything else is the same.
Can you post where you read the 0 to 60 times for the Magnum?

Hi Folks,
I believe the variance in measured 0-60 times has much more to do with the testers than the cars.
Usually (but not always :) ) manufacturer numbers come from simply flooring the car from idle. However, most review sites/magazines do whatever they can to get the lowest number--no matter how badly they abuse the car. Such things as dropping the clutch (or, if an auto, into drive) from a dead stop at 5000 RPM, brake-loading an auto's torque converter, etc.
My guess is the Magnum's R/Ts heavier weight might make it 0.2 secs slower to 60 than the 300c, while the different test methods could make a difference closer to 1 sec.
Probably the most useful numbers here would be for willing owners to time their 0-60 times when simply stomping on the gas. I volunteer as a test driver. :D

drdeville makes a good point. Independant tests could produce better results. Dodges official results are 6.3 for the Magnum.

I thought I had read a review were they got 5.9 but it was just the driver saying that he thought he could get 5.9 if he pushed it.
I'm gonna PM some links to you. They're from a different Dodge forum so I don' want to post them here ( I haven't read the forum rules yet). One link has timeslip results of a Magnum RT and alot of contrasting opinions. There's no 0-60 test but you may get some idea of what that car should do.
I just got back from premier night. I was gonna try to do a 0-60 test for you but they had no RT's. Yep that's right. No Magnum RT's at Magnum premier night. Man I was pissed.

I know that C&D tested the 300C at 5.3 seconds. Another place listed 5.2. I'm confused.

I don't think these numbers are even close. I have a new Mag R/T with 1600 miles on it.
The fuel MPG is way off, my AZZ tells me the 0-60 is off also, I mean your rearend (BUTZ) tells you what "QUICK" is.
MPG- only 13.2 - 13.8 this is every time, for 1600 plus miles, in less than 1-month, both town and interstate miles mixed.
My 1997 Chevy Suburban, w/5.7 and a 5-sp/OD tranny, gets 12-13 mpg in the city with my foot in it all the time. I toss it around as if it were a mustang.
I CAN'T DRIVE, 55 !
I live in Jax. Fla. I suppose there could be an altitude problem, if I'm at sea level and the tunning was much higher than sea level.
I have noticed a lot of hesitations and unsure gear shifts by the computer and the tranny.
Besides telling me to take my foot out of it,
HELP is gladly WELCOMED !!!

Im pretty sure dropping the clutch or neutral dropping a auto from 5000rpm isn't going to get you a good time at all, unless you are in a burnout contest or driving an all wheel drive car.

Ani Wa Hya,
I'm not sure if you make generous use of the AutoStick feature while driving. If so, then please keep in mind that you *will* burn more gas even though MDS remains activated. You'll burn less gas while leaving the shifter in "normal" Drive mode.

I pulled a 0-60 time on my Gtech at 5.7 that was with a 1/4 tank of gas .
Thats just fast enough for a wagon .......Remember it a hauler all wagons inmy day had massive motors .Keep treating it like the C5 you wanted and youll not have a car soon to drive, mark my words..
