Well where to start?

My D100 was originally a 6 with a manual but now has a 318 with a 727, various bits on it, Hedman Hedders, Edelbrock Performer intake, & a Holley remanufactured 650 4 barrel. Got dual exhausts with cherry bombs & no balance pipe.

I bought it as is a few years back & had it shipped over here, so I've no idea what the motor came out of or whether it was rebuilt before it was installed, it's a '69 block from the casting; etc etc,

Thing is it runs pretty rich but not on all cylinders it runs lumpy at idle & needs very little choke when cold, at full bore it hauls though;
I've tried adjusting the idle mixture screws & the primary float level is set to minimum, but I'm still not happy with it.
Timing is another thing, got two sets of timing marks, one set cast on drivers side & a bolt on plate on the other, drivers side line up with timing light on #5, bolt on plate on#1, go figure.

So my questions are these, Is it worth continuing to mess about with this carb, I've read wildly varying opinions on them.
Would a balance tube between the dual exhausts make a difference?
Is it worth sticking with this lump or would I be better off swapping it out for a magnum 5.2. or shelling out for a crate motor & damn the expense.
If I stick with this block & rebuild the motor, which cam? which heads? because I'll go for unleaded heads if I rebuild it.

Bear in mind I'm in France & shipping is an issue.

Your opinions interest me. Thanks.
