Hi, i've heard from different sites that removing the egr valve from a 2001 2.4l sedan can improve performance. I have also heard that it hurts performance and throws error codes. Has anyone done this yet or know someone who has? I want to know before i do something stupid to my engine.

Removing the EGR from any engine will actually increase performance. EGR stands for Exhaust Gas Recirculation. Thats exactly what it does. Recirculates exhaust to burn it again.
It will throw codes however and have problems passing emission tests and really doesn't give that much performance increase..
The better performance increase would be to get a conical style air filter and install it.
