A couple of years ago I installed factory A/C in my 86. I used everything from an 87 Ramcharger...except i bought a new filter drier. After making sure it had oil in the sytem I calculated R134-A at 80% of our stock 42oz and came out roughly 33.4 of 34oz. I never did write down what the high and low side 134-A readings should be...my question..does anyone know what the low and high readings should be?

heres my thoughts on this. My cousin used to charge my a/c and he always used the gauges to set it up, well come to find out he had to much in it and it wouldn't cycle properly. Later i let a shop do it for me in my truck and there machine monitors the system and stops when it senses its full. I personally wouldn't attempt charging on my own but thats just me, gauges aren't as accurate as the machine. they can fluxuate from cycle to cycle. the fan can come on a 200 psi one time and another time at 195, thats using an example with an air fan. Just my .02 worth.

yea i may have to break down and take it to an A/C shop because, set by the guages at 85% of 44oz...it does not cycle properly. Sometimes it is cold as ice on the start up and sometimes i can go 15 miles and just hot air.

yeah my wifes truck does that, its a gm though, but i never had it on a machine. i think you'd be better off with a shop doing it too. is your fan constant? or do you have an electric fan? i think theres a way to wire your A/C high pressure switch to the relay for the electric fan, you have to be able to cool the freon when your sitting. Also make sure that the flow is going the right way on your reciever drier it flows a certain way.
When you did this conversion did you go to the small sanden cylindrical pump? mine has a fridgedaire pump on it and i wanna convert it too.

I changed my 87 D100 and 87 5th ave. both over and went by the recommended percent and both work fine. If I remember correctly the pressure is higher with the 134. You may have an expansion valve sticking. :gr_patrio
