I'm scanning our local trade-n-swap rag here just on the off chance I might turn up a parts truck with a solid rad support or, if my stars are really aligned, a solid cab.
No such luck, but check this out:

Guy claims it has 98 miles on it and was never registered. WTF? Why would somebody buy a truck in '79 then never register or use it?
Not sure what to make about the "4x4" in the description--guy must be a little confused.
Interesting find, though....

It may have been a display model or a prototype...

my red flags are up and flapping! I mean if you are so proud of the ride to never register it...you would at least go medieval bherder on them with all the camera shots.

Also--if a motor sits for 30 years unused, you've got serious problems right? Rust and corrosion in the internals, for example?
Which raises a question...last summer my truck was out of service for about 3 months (a lot longer than I'd planned) while I removed the bed and r&r'd the frame and rear suspension. When I went to start it up for the first time, there was some serious friction going on while she cranked (ran fine once the oil distributed).
I may have her out of service again this summer for a month or two while I fix the rad support, redo the front suspension, etc. What should I do to protect the motor sitting unused? Fire it up every week? Put some special oil in the fuel tank and let it run on that before taking it out of service? The FSM has a note to dealers about doing that if the truck is going to sit unused for over a week (!). What additive are they talking about?
Opinions, please...

So Ed, you gonna go look at it, just for shits and giggles?
But yeah, there would be a LOT of precautionary measures I'd be taking before firing up an engine that's been sitting for 30 years. Who knows .... Maybe someone did start it once a month.
My best guess would be this is some rig that someone inherited and really knows nothing about it ... Hence calling it a 'D' and 4x4 all at once, not posing a gazillion pics, etc. It looks like it says Power
Wagon on the fender though... Hey maybe you could get it reasonably cheap! Have your dedicated plow truck and a 'like-new' one to tool around in.. :D

It's a ways away, doubt it. Be interesting, though.

Like to see the expression on my wife's face when I say, "hey, honey, guess what...I got another old Dodge pickup!"
I think she'd be at the county clerk's office Monday morning filing divorce papers...
What I really need is a parts truck, or at least some body parts in reasonable shape...
Judging from the ad, I'm guessing he's expecting to get 12-14K for it--doubt he'll find any takers at that price range.

turn it over once and a wile should be fine. if your really worried, pour some oil in the cylinders though the plug holes in the heads.

If it has sit for a long time the brakes will also need to be gone over... The fluid only absorbs so much water (It's hydroscopic) and then rust forms. Also the fuel tank will smell bad if it sit that long and anything rubber; belts, hoses, etc, should be replaced.... So check the age of the rubber to see if they agree with the age of the truck.

Ah-HA!!!! This proves my theory!
I've always felt that if you left the cap(s) off the master cylinder, (Or even ON, maybe) in a driving rainstorm, it WILL suck every bit of moisture in, from a hundred mile radius.
There, B-300 just proved it. I'm NOT crazy. So THERE.

Which theory is this...
1. Rust can happen even in brake fluid.
2. Brake fluid sucks (moisture).
3. ?????

None. I'm trying to be funny (I think) or a wise-ass. Take your pick. Yeeesh.

sounds like a scam. Nobody has one of these trucks (especially in pristine condition) and not know anything about them let alone have one in mint condition after 30 years with 98 miles on it. And it DOES say 98 miles on the odometer not the truck, so maybe it got more use then they are letting on.
But then again, who can be sure?? Maybe it's some weird rich collector who never used it. But I like the stolen in '79 and locked in a barn scenario. Crazy Grandpa Bherder probably passed away and the grand kids found it. I fear this may be a mystery we may never get to the bottom of....
