You guys ever max out your alternator adjustment when trying to tighten the belt? I heard a little squeal or two last time I was out plowing (just while revving the motor), so I went to tighten it up and it was just about as far as it could go. I maxxed it out completely, and according to my gauge it doesn't even have have 60 lbs. of tension on it (supposed to be 70).

Belt is a NAPA 257480, Gates 48-5/8" length. I double checked and this is correct for the application.

Should I try a slightly shorter belt? Is there something wrong with my bracket adjustment? Belt was new in '07, shouldn't be that stretched out!

I have noticed on every belt change, I have very little room left to swing the alternator further out, even on a new belt.

Strange. Annoying.

On Gates belts ....
Napa adds the '25' For their part number....
The '7' is for the belt width...
The '480' is supposed to mean 48.0 inches.... (Don't know how the extra 5/8" got in there... It would be more correct to number it 485 ... As in 48.5" ...)

Maybe try a 7475 .... as in 47.5" .... If they exist....

They do exist, I checked the Gates website. Run in half inch increments.

I'll give that a shot. Hate to replace a belt prematurely, but not about to tolerating a slipping belt...

I'll see if I can exchange my NAPA spare for a 7475...
