about a month ago i flooded the truck and waited like 2 days to start it.the oil smelled like gas and was brown i had maybe 50 miles on it driving it after i flooded it.ihave just changed the oil this week.i just checked the oil and the cap.on the under side i am getting a creamy color stuff.what is it and what does it mean.is the motor giong bad?anything i can do it is a 86 d150 with a 318 and i used mobil w10-30.thanks

The white stuff is condensed moisture. It usually comes from driving short trips when the engine doesn't get hot enough to cook the moisture out of the crankcase. A bad thermostat contributes to the problem, as does a plugged exhaust crossover in your intake manifold. Mopar 318's are very bad for the plugging problem.

When your engine is warming up, touch the intake manifold just in front of the carb. It should warm up very fast if the crossover isn't plugged. A properly operating manifold heat control valve is also needed, so if it's stuck open, the exhaust won't warm the intake as fast as it should. If you have headers, you don't have that feature.

Spring weather can also be a factor when the weather is very cold at night and warm and humid during the day.

Some engines are worse than others, but it's not a big deal unless you actually have water in the oil. However, the conditions that cause the milky buildup are the same ones that create sludge, so if it persists, your engine will get nasty inside.

Water in the oil. Could be condensation from short trips or worse a coolant leak into the oil... give it a change, if it reoccurs it might be the worse.

i do drive it short distance right now maybe 5 mins 1 way.my radiator has not gone down at all.i just checked it yesterday.i am planning to drive it some more when i get some more bugs worked out thanks

today i started the truck and let it run for 30-45 mins.when i went to turn it off i looked at the oil gauge and it was inbetween "L" and the middle of the gauge,the 2nd line and 1st time for this.i turned it off and went out about 15 mins later and checked the oil and it was ok,may need some.i still have condensation in the oil.if i let it run longer (as in a few days or time wise)will it help get rid of it?i never did check the intake manifold i will in a day or so(rain tomorrow).when i got the truck the p.o had the air filter top off and no filter could this be why. i replaced the filter that goes on the valve cover and the old one was hollow.why?where is the exhaust crossover at and what does it look like?on the air filter canister i dont have the hose that goes to the manifold and the that adapter for the hose goes on.could this have anything to do with it.thanks

I'm having trouble following your post. Can you post some pictures? Maybe break it down into distinct issues/questions?

By the way, idling a carbureted motor for 30-40 minutes like that is not a great idea. If you want to get rid of residual moisture in the oil/crankcase, go for a nice 10+ mile jaunt and get her good and warmed up.

what does the exhaust crossover look like and where is it at.the p.o. had the air filter cover off would that help with anything?the filter on the valve cover was hollow,why?when i am able to drive it how long would it be before the condensation be gone?why was the oil pressure gauge low?i have oil in it,a little low though.thanks

crossover is inside the intake manifold..you have to remove the intake inorder to see it. oil could be low from a blown intake or a worn engine or improper oil/old oil or a worn oil pump.

I always block off my cross overs - but then again - I live in South Florida - I don't need to worry about the cold weather stuff.

A good 10-20 minute drive will usually clear the moisture problem - especially if you use the lower gears (after a few minutes warm-up).

I fired up my friend's 318 after it sat for a few months and you shoulda seen the steam coming out of the valve cover after a 10 minute drive and park. After we did that a few times - all was ok.
