Heres some pics of my 78 i bought a couple months ago. gotta 318 with 727 auto in it. A/C, cruise, tilt, and so on. The trucks real solid for the year. So far i've started on the wiring harness, this truck is going to be an everyday driver. I'm changing the wiring harness now, changing the carb to a new 600 cfm carb, new steering box with a borgansen steerin shaft to do away with the rag link. and i gotta put all new brake lines and hoses on, new shocks and new U-bolts on the back axle. Right now the truck has a major case of the leans, i think its cause one of the air shocks is stuck in the up position, i noticed that when i found the busted U-bolt on the rear axle. I'm also going to make a new dash panel for the truck similar to bherders dash only i'm not using the factory cluster i'm going completely aftermarket. Trucks reading 68000 miles on it. the previous owner thought it was original miles but couldn't comfirm it. I paid $1000 for the truck i don't think i got hurt, it does run and drive.......well it will when the wirings done haha. Any feedback would be great. any ideas as well of things i can do with it. Oh yeah anyone know how to get those cab light lenses off without breaking them?
Given the orange paing we see in the open glovebox shot (orange) could this be an original "MACHO" truck? Nice one either way but one thing GET RID OF THE HOLLEY!!! I run Carter AFBs or TQs with great results!

i do believe the truck was oringally orange. whoever painted it didn't do such a hot job. I like the color in the glovebox wouldn't mind going back to that. As for the carb. i actually bought summits own brand of carb. it just came out and I'm not sure who makes it but its got float bowls like a holley but its all put together different. they claim its a bolt on and go so were gonna find out when the wiring is done.
What is a macho truck anyways?

The roll bar is a macho and i am thinking it could be all macho as well. Shame someone painted over it. The inside wheel wells are white and do not match the cab...possibly wrecked...maybe just an added macho rollbar.

hmmmm I asked the guy o got it from about the rollbar he thought it was added but it fits like a glove. what other features did a macho truck have? were there a lot of them? what were the specs of them im curious now is this good or bad if it is? it was never wrecked I been all over this truck and it way to straight to have been wrecked. as for the color not matching I could agree but judgingthe paint job I could undersrand why it don't match.

whats with the seam around the rear of the bed? Do all pre-80's have that? I havn't got my '77 home yet and don't remember seeing that

that seam was normal...like the old maxi van or window van...body codes that were longer got the longer sections welded on. This stopped in 81 on trucks.

Ok i have a question regarding the macho trucks. I check online and it appears that majority of them came with 360's in them. I haven't had a chance to call dodge yet but can anyone confirm this. i plan on finding out what i can about my truck.

I have a 77 Macho. The guy I got truck from painted it 98 Viper Red. He also got rid of roll bar and original rims. Still have original spare with Macho rim. Would love to find roll bar. Mine was Orange.

I agree that is a good looking Dodge. Could not imagine someone buying a Macho and then taking the add ons off.

I asked Him where roll bar and rims were and all he would say is there long gone. He welded up roll bar holes. Going with M/T SideBiter rims. Have not been able to find a Macho roll bar.

naw my harness is made by haywire inc. from joplin missouri. so far they've been a huge help and the harness is very heavy duty and the craftsmanship is good as well. it cost 210.00 plus shippung. its all american made too.

i was looking at the a/c compressor in the underhood pictures
that reciprocating compressor looks large enough to run a couple of jack hammers; it has to weigh a ton
how difficult would it be to swap in a more modern rotary compressor; that is of one is not concerned about keeping things original

i'm going to convert it to a rotary style. i think its mostly jsut the brackets from a little newer truck. and of course your lines and stuff will be different. i'm going to buy a whole system except the condensor and evap core for mine from a wrecked truck.

Here are 4 Wheeler magazine and an ad from Dodge for the macho power wagon, also a pick of my 77.
ok what were the perks to a macho truck versus a regular power wagon did it have different suspension or different drive train? will the vin number tell if mine was a macho truck? lookin at them last pics mine has the big mirrors on it and has the rollbar as well im going to check the spare tire to see what's in it. what did the macho rims look like? were they steel or aluminum?

The Rims were Black steel spoke with yellow stripe.

I looked up under my truck and my spare is a white spoke wheel its not black was the spare black too? did they all have black wheels?

On 1978 I think they all were Black with yellow stripe. The Spare was same as other 4 rims.
