you are probably leaking on the front drip rail...fix it fast or you will lose your entire roof.

the rear end going bad often manifest itself with noise and vibration most often when turning

But, rear ends are actually made of pretty stern stuff and in my opinion do not often fail unless leaks have allowed the lubricant to escape or you have been doing heavy hauling or beating it up by drag racing

I would look at the u-joints first and make sure those are in good nick before you start looking at the rear end

without trying to sound like a smart ass, the rear transmission mount keeps the transmission from dragging along the road

What's a good caulk to use in that spot? It looks like the factory installed stuff on mine is pretty well shot, I was thinking I would remove all of it, clean up and prime that whole gutter, recaulk, then prime and topcoat. Can you recommend a good product to use?

eastwoods "seam sealer" just make sure you get the rust all out..I grinded my rust off then used navel Jelly from lowes and it has not returned. I did put the seam sealer on thick.

yeah my 88 D 100 had holes in it already back in '94 (that truck's long since gone)

My '73 had a similar leak, but it wasn't from the drip rail.

When I pulled the windshield, I found that the flanges of the upper frame corners were wavy and rough. There were also shards of metal on the edges of the spot welds. I ground off the sharp edges; took a hammer and dolly to the corners to flatten them, and then filled the wavy area with body filler and painted. When I installed the windshield, I used a black body sealer that doesn't harden. That was six years ago, and no more leaks.

on my 88, it was the roof panel, right in the high side of the body line, on the corner, back about 1/2 an inch to the flat roof panel. and 2-3" long on the passenger side; so I got rid of that truck. (I could not make the EFI run right anyway; 8 MPG from a dead stock 318 2WD shortbed; absolute WORST gas hog that I have ever owned)

I agree with GHS, Eastwoods seam sealer is black non hardening.
