Help me pick a set of wheels.

Here is the truck:
http://i80.photobucket.com/albums/j175/ps3tv/Truck/DSC01062.jpg

I will be using the truck a fair amount on dirt roads in the back country, so I need a better set of tires. I have ordered a set of Toyo Open Country MT tires in a 33x12.50R-20 size.

The truck has a fair amount of chrome on it now, ... bumpers, mirrors, and door handles, ... that I don't plan on changing to black. The appearance of the stock chrome wheels would actually be fine, but I'm not going to waste my time mounting the new tires back on these plastic wheels. I'm thinking black wheels would have a more rugged appearance. I'm not sure what all black wheels are going to look like though, so I'm thinking a combination of machined aluminum and black on the same wheel might be the way to go. I'm having a hard time deciding, so which wheel would you choose. Here are my top three choices. Add another wheel photo if you think its better.

slide down to our Concept Modified forum and ask one of the guys down there to photoshop each wheel on your ride, and you will have a great idea how they will look ...

just a thought

I ordered wheel #1. They are a brand new wheel, and KMC has only manufacturered the -12 offset version. They will start building the correct +18 offset in 7 to 10 days, and will drop ship a set directly to my tire dealer. Should have them in about two weeks, and will post pics when they are on the truck with the new tires.

Thanks folks, I had been leaning toward #1 anyway.

Yes. I went with the first wheels, and a set of 35" tires.

Yes that picture is at stock height, no lift or level at all. But the truck is having a 2" front lift and 3/4" rear lift installed right now. I will take another picture after the lift for comparison purposes. The truck does not need a lift to clear the tires, I ran it for a week this way with no tire contact.

Ok, here you go.

Stock suspension with 35x12.50s:
http://i80.photobucket.com/albums/j175/ps3tv/Truck/DSC01159.jpg

2" front lift, 3/4" rear lift with the same 35" tires:
http://i80.photobucket.com/albums/j175/ps3tv/Truck/DSC01192.jpg

And I plan on tinting the front windows to the legal limit (43% in this state).

Guys, I have to say that Dodge built a great truck with the '09 Ram. I think it is fantastic that you can put a set of 35s on a stock 1/2 ton truck. My Laramie now has a 2" lift in front, but that is from a spacer that is the EXACT same thickness as the spacer that comes stock in the front suspension of a TRX model truck. A person that is interested in using their truck off road simply needs to buy a stock TRX model Ram 1500, then throw on a set of 35s, put a Detroit locker in the rear diff, and you're good to go with a very capable, yet smooth riding, quiet, comfortable, powerful, and fun to drive truck. Good job Dodge!

Doc,
I don't have any more pictures with the leveling kit that are just driveway photos from different angles. I will get some the next time I wash the truck and post them then. Here are a few "non-driveway" pictures with the lift on, but they dont show the trucks stance all that well.

That looks sweet. Are/were the tires rubbing before /after the lift?

MoparToYou
04-21-2009, 10:53 PM
No rub ever on the right side of the truck. On the left side my inner fender liner has a tendency to hang down about an inch or two too far in the back. Because of that the outer edge of the tire can sometimes scrub the back of the inner fender liner when the tire is turned all the way and I hit a good sized bump. I have been able to push up on the fender liner and jostle it around a bit, and it seemed to snap into place and stay up out of the way like it is suppose to be, and no tire rubbing now. I need to find a way to better secure that inner fender liner though, so it doesn't fall back down someday in the future. I would think something as simple as a small sheetmetal screw and a large washer to keep it from pulling through the plastic, then find a small tab of metal on the back side of the fender liner to secure it to.

if that is true, then why did this guy ryan get a good lift from his, he has a TRX4.....I think what you said is false......

My kit had a 3/4" space for the rear and if itwas any larger then the truck would be unlevel again. Below are pictures.....
