I installed the factory kit, and just wanted to tell anyone that might be thinking of it, that it is a pretty easy install.

You change the rear latch and run the harness along side the factory harness on the drivers side, once there you cut the nipple off the harness gromment and run part of the wire inside.

If you are thinking of doing a lockpick or similar device (which I did) now is the time to do it. You have to access the stereo/nav unit, so you might as well put in the Lockpick now. The Lockpick has a power supply to the rear camera that will enable the camera while driving down the road or anytime you want by pushing the u connect button twice. This helps the camera install by not having to cut and splice into the factory reverse light wire in the underhood fuse box, or removing it, which makes the install that much easier.

It works in reverse as normal, but if you want to see behind you, just push the u connect button twice and you can see behind you (like a motorhome with a camera for a rearview).

I got the kit thrown in on the deal, so I don't know what it costs, but I think its neat.

The Lockpick will also allow you to change the Nav destinations while driving and enables all the blocked functions while in motion.

What Radio do you have installed? What software version is your radio (9.807 or 1.055 if you have the RER)? Do you happen to recall the factory camera kit part number that you ordered? Did you already have the locking tailgate or add it as part of the kit?
Sorry for the questions but you installed exactly what I would like to install in my 09 Laramie.

Thanks!

Cliff

Did you take any pics of the install that you could post?

CAMERA KIT P/N 82211184. I have the lockable tailgate latch already, you just swap the lock cylinder that comes in it for the original, if you didn't have a locking latch, you would need to get it rekeyed I suppose.

I didn't take any pictures, sorry. I didn't even think about it. I have the RER radio, but I will have to check on the software.

Does the camera look straight back toward traffic or down towards the hitch?

It is a wide angle which goes back quite a way, but it also shows the hitch. It is really good in my opinion. I can see straight behind me and off to both sides as cars come up and pass me. You can see the hitch quite well also. Overall I am happy with it.

I have a few camera phone pictures of what the view is, but I don't know how to post them. If you are interested pm me and I can send them to you. They are not the best quality, but you can get the idea of what you can see.

For this camera, does the harness have plugs at the tailgate so you could remove the tailgate need be?

Thanks,
Ryan

Yes it does, it has a harness inside the tailgate that clips on the drain hole then connects to the main harness. No problem removing the tailgate if you need to.

Is it possible to use the factory back up camera with an aftermarket Pioneer nav unit?

I don't know but I had an AVIC Z1 in my 07 and the Pioneer camera was really nice.

Do you have to do this if you are not using a Lockpick or is this step necassary for the standard install?

If you are not using the Lockpick, you need to take out the underhood fuse box and splice into the reverse light wire, it isn't a big deal, the factory kit comes with the crimp terminal, this is where the camera gets it's input to turn on when in reverse.
