Well MY reverse lights haven't worked since I got the truck. In the Haynes manual it says "Check for continuity between the two outer terminals. There should only be continuity only when the transmission is in Reverse. There should be no continuity between either of the outer terminals and the transmission case"

Well I don't know what its called, but that tool where you touch one end to negative and one to positive and it lights up when there is a connection?? Well do I touch that to the two outer terminals to the Neutral safety switch to check continuity while in reverse?

If so I did that and nothing. I just replaced the Neutral safety switch and the plug for it.

The tool you're describing sounds like a test light, but that won't tell you if there's continuity. What you want is an ohmmeter, which is typically one function in a multi-meter (these can be had for under $20 for a cheapie, more like $50-60 for a decent one). Touch the tip of each test lead onto the two terminals, and if you get a reading of 0 ohms you have continuity. This is also called a resistance test (because you're testing for resistance, which is what prevents continuity).

ohmmeter, eh? Ok man I'll check it out, thanks! So when I test it out I want a reading of 0?

They also make continuity testers that are 'self powered' .... A 'AA' battery with a light bulb.. these are dirt cheap also..

hmmm, when I got my Power Wagon, the reverse lights didn't work either. Somehow the original owner had bypassed the neutral safety switch and it was not hooked up to the starter relay as it should be. It would start even when in gear, but when someone told me my reverse lights weren't working, I checked the neutral safety switch, which is what lights up the B/U lights, and it had a broken terminal, so I put a new one on and the B/U lights still didn't work, that is when I found the one lead going to the starter relay not hooked up. Hooked it back up after replacing the switch and all was good!

well this is my mission for the day. I'll check it out man. I swear when I was poking around when I first got my truck some of the wires were cut on the neutral safety switch plug, But it still started. Then i noticed it started in any gear, then it didn't start at all unless i "Jumped" it by connecting the terminals on the starter itself. I replaced the NSS and the plug for it and now it only starts in P or N. I'll see if I can find where it goes to the starter relay, I'm not sure that I see what you are talking about though.

The center pin on the neutral start switch is the ground circuit for the starter relay... If the starter relay is replaced with a "Manual" one it will be grouned and start in any gear.
