OK so I broke down and bought the Weber replacement carb (32/36 DFEV) for my 88 D50 w/ the 2.6L. I got the whole kit (adapter, carb, linkages, air cleaner, etc) in the kit.
So my question is: Anybody got any helpful hints for me before I install this sucker. I've already removed the old carb (junk) and gasket and ready to install the weber, but the instructions are a little vague when it comes to the electrical wiring. Had to quit cause I was working outside in the snow.
The instructions say to connect the electric choke and run a jumper wire to the idle control. But on the old Mikuni there are 3 or 4 electrical connections, what do I do with the rest of this crap? The mechanical portion of the install seems pretty straight forward, but the wiring is a little odd.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Usually electric chokes are just hooked to a ignition-hot wire (comes on when the key is turned to the Run position). Find a wire that is always hot w/ the key on (make sure it doesn't turn off after a few seconds) and hook to that.

What about all the other wiring? Can I just cap them off, and forget about them?

If it went to the original carb, then yes.

Just wanted to say thanks for the help. I got the Weber installed and it wasn't as bad as I initially thought once I got into it.
As far as 1st impressions, this little carb is much easier than that stupid Mikuni junk, and it runs a hundred times better now.
Thanks again,
Matt

Ahhhhhh .... Not always so Speed ... I DON'T KNOW how Mutsusumbitchy does it, but on my 'merican rig, the power (Ign on) goes thru a switch that is plumbed into the oil pressure port, that will only turn 'on' when the engine is running and there is oil pressure.... Only then is juice flowing to the electrical 'heater' to heat the coil to open up the choke.
But like I say ... I have no idea how the Japs did it....
