I'm trying to reconstruct a 6-cylinder engine in a 1955 C-series truck. On the left side of this engine, in front of the starter and behind the distributor is a diamond shaped area with 4 bolt holes. I don't know what is supposed to be attached here. Can somebody help? The two holes on the top have a grove around them to receive an o-ring.

Thanks!

Thanks. Since this truck has an external oil filter can this be just covered with a blank plate or does the top and bottom holes need to be connected?

Well I just went out an looked at the engine in my 50. It is a flathead 6 218 cubic inch engine. As it is the oil canister bolts to the head. There is no diamond shaped area. The only thing I see is two oil lines coming out of the block in the area you describe. I have no idea what this could be. If you oil filter has the lines already plumbed then it is something else. I suggest you go to the pilot house forum and post your question there. Post a picture if you can. Email me at fernwood48@gmail.com when you find out, I'm really curious as to what it is. sorry I'm no help on this, is there a hole in the block or just some threaded holes? Some of the engines had a forced oil flow design but I don't have one of those engines. Maybe that is what it is.

Here is a picture of the area in which the part(s) attach.
