I expect to have my 09 Crew 1500 SLT in a couple weeks. Was wondering how the nav/gps system was working for those of you that have it. Dealer I am buying from told me they automatically update software and maps every time you have it in for work - no charge (which is nice). Thanks.

The Nav works great, as far as the free updates, thats news to me, but sure would be nice. I have a hard time believing they would give up that kind of revenue updates bring them.

So far my NAV works pretty good. As far as the updates, that's a first that I've heard of.

works great, but have heard nothing about the free updates. not to mention it takes a really long time to update and it might fill up one tech's day just doing updates on mygig units!

The truck I'm thinking about buying doesn't have the uconnect gps. Can the dealership install this radio and take out the standard u connect radio? In theory it would operate just like it would from the factory.

Once you get the dash apart is it just plug and play?

You can have them install for about 2600$ give or take or just go to http://www.oemautopartsco.com/product_info.php?cPath=65&products_id=183

and get one from him for 825$.... and yes it is plug and play

Thanks for info guys. Dealer I am using located in Millbury Mass. Sales guy told me "It takes just as much time to check and make sure nav up to date as to simply do upgrade so they do it every time you bring it in". We'll see. From what I've seen and heard - updates to maps are about 80 - 100 bucks a year. So I'll be happy with once a year for free. He said when I pick truck up he'd spend about an hour on the nav/stereo alone. I believe he told me there is a setting that controls how loud nav voice is and that it does lower the volume on the radio when it has to say something. Sounds pretty customizable - which is music to my ears. Continued comments and opinions welcome. Off topic - am still shocked I have only seen 2 2009 Rams in my travels (Massachusetts) and a recent one week trip to Orlando.

Anyone out there put in a new (much better) one? Are there any out there that put this one to shame? If so, which ones and how much? Thanks.

My unit is very accurate with the current position and map on the screen, even off of the beaten path. I just wish there were an easier may to enter a Point of Interest - by saving your current location. My owners manual says the DVD updates will be $199 and you can send your money to the White House.

Updates are not free. Your salesman is just like every other salesman I've come across. Clueless and confused about anything technical.

I have MyGig in my other vehicle and the updates are as mentioned, $199.00. I have an older version then whats out now and I recieved a card in the mail from NavTeq saying that I should update to the new version. When I called the dealer to ask about them about updating it for me since I bought the vehicle towards the end of the year and a month later the software updated they said they couldnt do it because the updates are head unit specific. I called Navteq and the dealer was correct. The updates are actually VIN (activation code) specific or something and supposedly cannot be used in other vehicles or head units.
The dealer would have to actually purchase the update then install it and give you the disc in case of any issues. If you didnt have the disc and something happened to the radio and it had to be reset it reverts to the original map version. YOu can just purchase it yourself directly from Navteq but it aint cheap and if your like me and you live in a new area that wasnt originally drawn on the map program then there is no guarantee that it will be there this time around.
