Is this reasonable? I brought my 96 Stratus with 114 miles into the shop because it had slight "coughs" when it went 45mph. The initiallly told me it was the transmission celuloid that needed to be replaced, then they told me that the catalytic converter was also bad to they needed to replace that. I told them I just wanted the celuloid changed, but then they said that the catalytic conveter needed to be replaced or else it would cause the celuoid to not to function properly and eventually make me blow a gasket. They then called me the next day and said as they were fixing the above they found my serpentine and timing belts were bad, and so was the water pump. The estimate is now $2400!!! Do these repairs seem reasonable?

The trans solenoid has nothing to do with your catalyst. They are taking you for a ride on that one.

I can however believe that at 114k your water pump, timing, and belts are shot. They usually break at that range so you are lucky. 2400 seems steep considering a typical timing job around 800, solenoid is 1 hour labor and held in by 2 bolts and a gasket, and the cat can be bought for 60 bucks and welded in for 20.

Go elsewhere, they are raping you.
