I am preparing my 1996 Dakota 6 cyl 2wd to tow a 2200 lb boat trailer. The truck has a dealer-installed 'tow package'. I have just put a new wiring harness and lamps on the trailer, but the directional signals flash very rapidly and weakly. In addition to checking for bad connections/bad grounds, I would like to replace the existing flasher with a 'heavy duty' flasher, but I cannot find the old flasher unit. Owners manual says it is located under the hood on the driver's side, near the 'power distribution center'. I cannot find anything that looks like a flasher in that area. Help!

I think this is what you are looking for. My haynes book tells me that your truck should have it on the fuse block, under the dash next to the e-brake.
Hope this helps,
James

Thank you! Of course, the flasher units were right beside the steering column, as you said, and as I should have known. I replaced the original units with heavy-duty ones, and everything works well now.
