i have a 82 d150 with a /6. was wondering what muffler would sound the best on it & what pipe dia. to go with. There will be no headers. just trying to figure out what would sound good w/o the fart sound you get sometimes with a 6cyl :thatfunny. Thanks.

I'm trying to find out the same thing :D I'll probably experiment w/ my '80 a bit, if I find something nice I'll post it up. Flowmasters actually sound decent, at least in vids, haven't heard one IRL yet.

Scott-
I believe that 2.25" pipe would be best and either a turbo-style muffler (Dynomax super turbo or Magnaflow XL), or a longer straight-through design (Magnaflow round-body). Summit also makes their own turbo-muffler if you want to save some money. Any of these would give a good deep sound without the farty sound that you wish to avoid. Generally speaking, Flowmasters don't sound as good on a slant-6 unless on a dual system with an x-pipe.
Have a look at these options:

Summit isn't the only place to buy mufflers but they easily have the biggest selection and their prices are very reasonable. Check out Performance Curve too. I have bought Flowmasters from them several times for cheap and have had good experinces every time.

/6 in my truck (87 short bed) w/2.25 pipe and "cherry bomb turbo" oval canister muffler
sound great, just loud enough to know it's there(nice low note) and not obnoxious to the neighbors...
improved midrange driving too!

I had a Flowmaster on my '75 GMC w/292 inline 6 and it sounded great.

glasspack on 2.25" piping
I love the sound of glasspacks, especially when they are new but definitely NOT on a straight 6 (which has that telltale "buzz" to begin with) the wrong setup will drive you batty exhaust wise, that droan is maddening at certain speeds.
