Hey guys, I'm trying to get rid of a rich running condition on my truck and I suspect the float may be set incorrectly. I believe this is a Carter AFB Competition Series, 600 CFM. Can you adjust the float setting without having to remove the carb from the engine, or will I need to take it off? Thanks for any help and other tips you may have.

Yeah, you just remove the top, leave the body bolted on the engine. I've done it numerous times, it's easy. Floats are attached to the top and will come out with it. Just be careful w/ the mettering rods when you replace it. I've found the easiest way to do it is to take the little covers off the top of the metering rod holes to the rods can come up, put the top on, then wiggle the rods back down through the jets. You'll see what I mean when you do it.

Thanks speed. I was looking at the Edelbrock web site today and saw a video on this. This carb looks almost like their Performer model, so would you think it would be done the same way? Its almost exactly like you describe.

The Performer carb is a AFB, they bought Carter I believe. They are slightly different, the AFB has 2 more screws in the top and the boosters are not removable. They do disassemble the same way though, so yes, you can follow the directions for the Edelbrock. Just remember the 2 extra screws in the top, they are inside the air horn area, at the front of the primary area. Under the choke plate I believe.
