Thanks guys, Just got home with it. Drove great. It turns out the torque converter is designed for towing. The 440 is out of a 75 motor home and has forged pistons and an Lunati RV cam. Rear is D70 with a 4.10.
I don’t understand how this doesn’t belong. It’s the same exact body as an 87/92. They started its design in 1981. Maybe the website should be changed for accuracy. The previous body style even on the same platform was in 1972 to 1980. Why would TBs and emissions matter? Its still the same generation..?

Thanks, yea I couldn’t pass it up, and I wasn’t looking for an HD let alone a dually.
Very minor scratches/dents. Nothing worth touching till I paint it in a year or so. Changing out plugs tonight. It had POS motorcraft Furd plugs. We also need to recalibrate the carb settings. Its a Carter 750 Competition (everything is set for efficiency and de-advanced timing) for towing. The interior is nicer than the outside. It also has a 500watt system with 2 6" in the doors, and 2 tweeters (10 disk changer) plus a 10” sub behind the driver’s section. To say the least it’s a keeper.

Well I cant, but hood swap yes. I already bought a hood thats in even better shape off a 1974. Those hoods look enos better. It will give the truck a whole new look. We are just gonna paint in flat black and throw it on.

Smokin,
That is a GREAT find -- looks ready to tow a house! Does the big-block installation appear to be done in a professional manner (no bodge-welding, holes blown indiscriminately into frame, etc)? If so, you really have something there.
Interesting dual exhaust arrangement; at least now I know "how it is done". I like the extra-deep Mopar Performance tranny pan with an incorporated drain. And I really dig the colors.
Thanks guys, Just got home with it. Drove great. It turns out the torque converter is designed for towing. The 440 is out of a 75 motor home and has forged pistons and an Lunati RV cam. Rear is D70 with a 4.10.

The way the " '72 - '87 rule" was explained elsewhere is this: '88 saw the introduction of the Magnum engines (that is correct, yes?), hence '81 - '87s are included with the earlier generation trucks (though "half-generation" may be more accurate). Since you have a big-block in your truck, it has even more in common with some of the '72 - '78 trucks.
For whatever reason, you are obviously now are stuck over here on the "Vintage" forum with us "Lifestyle-era" owners -- but we're not such a bad bunch to be around once you get to know us. So: welcome!

Ok ok ok, I will concede; however for the record this truck is in fact a first Generation Ram. *i.e. Its like in 2002, the first 3rd Gen Half Ton Ram didn’t offer the Hemi. So there should be a special place for 3rd Generation Ram 5.9 Magnum trucks since it was a1½ year deal.
And yes the installation was done professionally to the T. At most we could only find very little things to disagree with. Obviously us Mopar lovers are very particular, and I had to ditch the small block air hat, and had to switch the plugs. The blue plastic plug wire holders are not the right blue if you know what that means. I can’t use the “F” word and talk about this truck at the same time without feeling sick. But you have to really try hard to find problems. At most the rubber floor isn’t perfect and I don’t care, besides that there are normal flaws that don’t bother me in the least, and the door panels are faded. But yes, this truck really is all that and more. Driving it, is amazing, and its faster than any factory diesel HD truck. It has altered almost all of the previous decisions I had made about all of my other vehicles. Since the deal was so good, I’m going to upgrade this truck more than most of my others.
Your collection seems impressive; you need to get a gallery going. If you posted pix I will look for them.

from wikipedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chrysler_LA_engine#Magnum_engines)
The LA family was updated and branded as the Magnum V6 and V8 in 1992. While the Magnum 3.9, Magnum 5.2, and Magnum 5.9 (1993-up) engines were significantly based on the 239, the 318, and the 360 — respectively — many of the parts will not directly interchange and are not technically LA engines (the only parts that are actually unchanged are the crankshafts and connecting rods). Magnum cylinder heads use a different oiling system and individually mounted rocker arms (AMC style) and a CCW rotation water pump with a much improved housing. The intake manifolds share basic dimensions but will not interchange without modifications. Chrysler's engineers redesigned the oil seals on the crankshaft to improve anti-leak seal performance. Although the pre-Magnum ('71-'92) and Magnum versions of the 360/5.9 are both externally balanced, the two are balanced differently (the 360 Magnum uses lighter pistons) and each requires a uniquely balanced damper, flywheel, drive plate, or torque converter. The valve covers on the Magnum have 10 bolts rather than the previous 5, for improved oil sealing.

Smokin,
Actually, I seem to recall that the last of the "Lifestyle era" trucks built in '80 wore "Dodge Ram" decals. So were those the "first Ram trucks"? I think not; the water does seem to be pretty muddy in this area.
I was going by memory (of another thread) when I stated what I thought was the rationale behind lumping '81-'87 in with '72-'80. Perhaps it instead had something to do with the introduction of the V-6, but I thought that came along in '87, not '88.
The easy way to find the truth: ask the mod.
I haven't yet published the photo "gallery" because I don't want to have them involuntarily moved to four different forums (since I spend most of my time on "Vintage Dodge Trucks, '72- '80"); just look at how the powers-that-be shifted around this thread! But thanks for the interest.

No I'd have to say the "1st" Ram trucks, were dated back to at least the "Job-rated" days, right after WW-II; anyone remember the huge Ram hood ornaments from the day, like ~'49-50?:secret2::teacher:

and yeah I gotta agree, I'd never heard anything about Dodge trucks being referred to as "Lifestyle trucks" before; any years or models! I think they are "off" in what they call "1st generation" though.
Thats as if to say those were the 1st trucks ever built by Dodge?? I DON'T THINK SO!
thats like it aggravates the Hell outta me, seeing all the ads for places like LMC truck that sell parts for GM and Ford back to 1947 but only back to 94 on a Dodge; (see their commercials on any made-for-cable-TV car/truck enthusiast shows) I called them, trying to find a catalog of parts that covered my '83; all computerized phone line (never got to actually talk to anyone; all "press'1" for_____, press 2 for______"BS and they asked me to key-in the year of my truck; and to tell them my address for my free catalog; the computer thing even repeated back that a catalog for my "83 dodge was on its way; like 3 months ago; going by the TV ads i'd have expected it to say"does not compute" or "sorry, we don't have any parts available for that year truck, thanks for calling" but like I said; 3 months ago, still waiting for my catalog that they said ws "on the way".

Exactly.
The Dually has had about 9K dumped into it to make it what it is. Im gonna do nothing but make it prettier and add some aluminum to the top end eventually.
This truck is much faster than any new Diesel out of the box anyway. And when we took off the pipes after the headers it sounded godlike. Im gonna save for some electric cutouts.
