I was looking through e-bay, looking for any transmissions I could rebuild for my truck and I cam across DODGE 8.0 Liter V-10 (http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/DODGE-8-0-Liter-V-10-w-transmission-from-a-1994-RAM_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQ_trkparmsZ72Q3a1209Q7c66Q3a2 Q7c65Q3a12Q7c39Q3a1Q7c240Q3a1318Q7c301Q3a0Q7c293Q3 a1Q7c294Q3a50QQ_trksidZp3286Q2ec0Q2em14QQhashZitem 280296554931QQitemZ280296554931QQptZMotorsQ5fManua lsQ5fLiterature#ebayphotohosting), from a 94 ram. I am having problems finding any good information on it... Does anyone have any info on it?

A lot of miles on this one...
Would be a shame for the motor or trans to go after all the work of a conversion into your truck.

The motor in now was in it when I got. so I have done nothing but replace starters and alternators so far. Since it is up in years. I was thinking either a rebuild or finding a hemi. There is a good salvage yard here I am going to go take a look at and see what is there. :D

I guess what I am asking, is.... is it any better or worse than the 360 I have now? If I got it, it would be a complete rebuild. But I am not going to go for it, if it isn't better than the 360.

I think you would get into a real mess trying to find stuff to swap this motor into your truck. Do a simple motor swap from a salvage yard if you need a new motor.

400K miles- no thanks. You'd be far better off with a hemi or a 318/360 magnum motor.

I am going to stop by the local yard and take a look around for a hemi. I am thinking a hemi would do rather nicely :D

I've talked to several people that owned V10 Rams, and they said they got better mileage than the 360, due to it never having to work hard (450 ft-lbs torque FTW!). The guy I know in our club that had one said it got 20mpg on the highway, in a 4x4 too.

400k is a lot of miles, but doesn't necessarily mean it's junk. Does it say it was running when pulled? Why it was pulled? For a grand you could probably rebuild it if you assembled it yourself. And the fact that it made it to 400k should something about it's reliability :) It's not, however, a sporty engine, it will be quick but built 360 would probably outrun it. You can build the V10 too, but that requires much more $$$$. It is different from the Viper V10, although related.

My .02 cents....

Time/labor = $$$

While I'm sure you could rebuild and stuff that V-10 in your truck, you're going to do a loooooot of modifications. Electrical, cutting, welding, hunting parts ..... Tranny maybe also? More mods? Computerized stuff? All more mods and figuring it all out?

Personally, I would just build a 360 (they can be hot-rodded) or maybe a big-block (Modifications, but I'll bet WAY less that installing an engine that was never designed to be in that rig) ....And have an engine that is going to just 'drop in' with minimal amount of effort.

Alright.. looks like finding another motor and the salvage yard and rebuilding it. I appreciate everyone's opinion on this. I know that y'all know Mopar better than me.

$1000 would make you a pretty stout 360.

yeah, I am thinking of going the hot rod route on the truck. In my mind is looks and sounds killer... now to get the truck that way. :thatfunny

ok, since I am going to rebuild the 360.. Where should I look for good performance parts for it? I want good performance with sort of a hot rod feel :D

VooDoo cam, RPM intake, 650-750 carb, headers, gasket-match the heads, get decent heads if you have the money (J heads, or late-model 308 heads off a TBI 360).

Cool, thank you for information, Speed.

There is a book (there is always a book it seems) on Stroking a 360. You can go with a mild 250 rpm or a wild 500, your choice.

The second one is what I used on my build, not exact but closely.

Yeah I don't really wanna go wild on it, being that my wife will probably drive it also at times. I did go out and get a book on how to rebuild small block Mopar. :D

Well, a stroker doesn't have to be wild. I've been thinking on building a 408 stroker for one of mine, using the cheap Mopar cast stroker crank. I'm thinking to just put crank and pistons in a stock 360, maybe w/ a small cam, basically just build a stockish 408. Even the stock Holley 2-bbl would work, as it was also used on 400 big blocks, so at most it'd need a jet change. It wouldn't rev high, but it'd probably make 300hp pretty easy and a ton of torque. Great for pulling loads and playing around with :)

What is the HP for a stock 360? Ball park figures. Are the parts you posted early for a stroker or just for a stock 360. I am looking at Summit for parts, and I will headed to the local salvage yard to see if they a stock 360 I can get to rebuild. So I can keep driving the truck until the other engine is rebuilt. :D

Not sure about your area, but over here there are a few places that sell remanufactured 360s for less than 1,000 installed and give a 5 year warranty. Food for thought. Hot rod or car craft did as story about taking a long block and adding cam, manifold and carb and got some descent hp. 325 - 350hp from a mild 360 should be easy.

Now that I am going to keep it a 360.. Does anyone have an original set or know where I can get the 360 numbers for the truck? I ask while I also look online. Can't hurt to try more than one place. :)

Speed Dragon

Stock 360 is around 200+hp, somewhere between 200-250 depending on year and induction. Original set of what?

The parts I listed will work w/ any 360. VooDoo is a series of cams by Lunati, not a single cam. The guys on Mopar Tech say they are one of the best cams out there right now.

I was asking if anyone had the 360 emblems or if they made them for any of our trucks. I don't want stickers.

The only '360' I've ever seen is a sticker on the air cleaner.. I've never seen a fender badge or anything like that.

ok, was just curious.

Yeah no 360 emblems. You can buy them aftermarket though I think.

After cruising YouTube... Watching and listening to 360 stroker motors, I see why a lot of y'all are doing it.. I may just go that route. :D
