I bought this carb off a guy with the intake. I have a 318 and he said it came off a 360. Where can I get an aftermarket air intake to fit over this carb. Goin to try to attach pic but not really sure how so hope it works.http://s454.photobucket.com/albums/qq261/sloane2361/76%20dodge/?action=view&current=dodgeengine.jpg

Yeah, you can buy plastic adapters at Advance I think. I have some that I bought a while back, it was like a kit or something.

Dodged,

Show me a photo and I will help you as best I can. If it truly did come from a 360 (as opposed to a big block), I should think that it would interchange just fine -- including the air cleaner mounting. If it belongs on a big block, however, you will have to use adapters for both the intake and the air cleaner -- sort of pointless.

If you can, show me a photo of both your current carb and the replacement carb.

Dodged,

There is no aftermarket air cleaner of which I am aware. Your carb has the big 2-bbl./small 4-bbl. air cleaner flange. My best advice is to find a stock air cleaner for the year from which that the 360 carb came.

Other than that, you will probably have to use an original pre-'68 Mopar 4-bbl air cleaner ($$$) or source one from a late-'60s - '70s big-block car or truck which came with a big 2-bbl carb. I think my '78 440 2-bbl truck has the air cleaner base which you need and, no, I won't sell it.

You see, the air horn is much bigger on the 2-bbl. carbs for the bigger engines. If you try to adapt your current air cleaner with its smaller base, you will lose any CFM advantage which you gained by using the bigger carb.

Best of luck.

Jeff

Yup; a 360 or 400 2 or 4 bbl air filter housing will fit; or any TQ or Quadrajunk air filter housing will fit. The 68 and down will NOT (except maybe from a 383 2 barrel) as the 60s 4 barrels had a smaller neck than the newer ones.

may not need an adapter kit; just go get yourself a chrome Edelbrock, Mr Gasket, etc air cleaner that says it'll fit a standard 5-1/8" 4 bbl neck and be done with it.

'72-76 had the Holley 22xx on the 360s so you should have some luck there. Quadrajunk? Still there are so many uneducated people.....

Don,

Maybe I have missed something, but the photo of the carb which Dodged100 posted certainly appears to show a 4 1/8" air cleaner flange. For purposes of this discussion, that size air cleaner flange was used only on pre-'68 Mopar 4-bbls. (AFBs), all big-block 2-bbls. (Holley or Carter) and (apparently) at least some of the 360 2-bbls. The 5" base air cleaner which fits the AVS, T-Quad, Quadrajet and most O.E. Mopar Holley 4-bbls. will definitely NOT fit the 2-bbl. Holley carb in Dodged's photo.

On the other hand, if Dodged wants to upgrade to a '68-up Mopar-spec 4-bbl. carb (or aftermarket 4-bbl. carb of recent manufacture) and corresponding intake, he can indeed use any air cleaner with the 5" base.

Hope this clears up the issue.

Fins...that would be negative... if you are saying this was just pre '68 Dodges' used the 22xx Holley on many successfull post 1972 years on 360s. i can attest to this on first hand knowledge of my (RIP) '73 which came factory 360 Holley 2210 3 on the tree. i remember getting an Edelbrock 4barrel air cleaner in '84 and it was too big to fit.

DDPR,

No, what I am saying is that, among the air cleaners which will fit the 2-bbl. Holley carb which Dodged has, those from pre-'68 four-barrel AFBs shared the same smaller 4 1/8" air cleaner base design as his 2-bbl. Others include: all big-block 2-bbls. and '72 - '76 360 Holley 22XXs as you stated. I'm not even sure that Holley 22XXs were even used on Mopars prior to '72.

There may be other air cleaners which will fit Dodged's big 2-bbl. shown in the photo, but those from AVS, T-Quad and Q-Jet are definitely not among them; they used a 5" base flange -- honest.

I really wasn't trying to make this confusing; it is simply that there are no aftermarket air cleaners of which I am aware that will fit it, so I was trying to offer him all of the options.

Nope; Unless you have the 1 BBL as used on the /6 or the BBD or Holley 2280 as used on the 318s ALL The rest of the 2 and 4 BBLS from at least '72+, use the same air cleaner opening. I have never heard of a "4-1/8" opening; you can swap air cleaner housings on any Hollet 2210/2245 2 barrel or Carter TQ, til your heart's content; I have even used the same factory air cleaner housings on aftermarket AFBs BUT I had to go to the junk yard and get a "collar" off a Quadrajunk, that went between the carb and air cleaner; about 1-1/2" tall (VERY common on Chevy vans) to raise the air filter housing enuf to clear the elec choke mechanism on the AFB.

I think you meant 5-1/8; that is available in some parts stores; but again youd be better (1) going to a junkyard and finding a suitable air cleaner housing; should not be hard to do or (2) buy a chrome aftermarket air filter (the "open element" kind) for a "standard" 4 barrel carb and be done with it.

I just do not think (IMHO) that there was ever a suitable aftermarket air cleaner for the Holley 22XX carbs...ever.

Yeah there was; (not counting dual snorkel; but even they would fit a 2210/2245) all 2210-2245 and 4 BBL carbs used the same air cleaner base over the years; if it'll fit a STANDARD (NOT the smaller '60s ones) 4 BBL It will fit a 2210/2245. Trust me; been there done that.

k so i will go get a 4bbl open intake and hope that works, but another thing is there is no threaded stud coming out of the carb for me to put the wingnut on to hold the air cleaner on. Can I buy this in the help section at autozone or is this going to be hard to find for this carb?

charlie1935

ere should be a threaded hole in the top of carb. Just get a piece of threaded rod and cut off to fit. I think it is 1/4-20 thread. Hardware store or lumber yard should have it.:gr_patrio

I would go with volaredon's idea on getting a chrome aftermarket air filter. I did that and when I am ready to put on an aftermarket carb, I will have a filter already there that will fit the new carb.

well i went to autozone and tried to get an aftermarket air cleaner for my holley 2210. It was way to big so i bought and adapter and riser kit which still was too large. Any suggestions? I have no good J yards to find anything this old around me. I have been running with no air cleaner which caused my choke and linkages to bind up. I have then freed up now but I gotta get something to cover this carb before i ruin it.Heres a pic of the carb. I tried to measure the top and it was around 4 1/8".http://i454.photobucket.com/albums/qq261/sloane2361/DSC01048.jpg

As I have said there IS NO aftermarket aircleaner for the holley 22XX series carbs. If you have have no bone yards near try ebay or search through the wanted/sale section in dodge talk.
