My 76 d100 has never had a bulb in the dome light so i figured i would throw one in there. Well put it in and it doesnt shut off. Would this be the headlight switch that needs replaced where you turn it all the way to the left to turn on the dome light?

That or maybe door-jamb switches, or wiring somewhere in between..

Should be a #1004 ... It's an odd-ball bulb .... Has two connections on the base... Like a tail/brake light bulb.

I had the same problem also, found it to be the bulb and a few wires on the back of the switch.

Dodged,

The other suggestions on this thread are good. To them, I will add this:

A door jamb switch operates simply by completing a grounded circuit when the button pops out. Therefore, if the ground circuit wiring which runs to them is "shorted" to ground somewhere prior to the switch, it will produce the effect which you describe.

Best of luck.
