I have a 1998 Grand Caravan with Infinity sound. My OEM stereo blows the fuse as soon as I turn it on. Dealer said it's the head unit, so I got an after-market unit, but it appears to be doing the same thing.

Is there a relay that could be the problem?
Is there a way that I can test the amps/speakers?
Any ideas?

(I asked this question in February and the thread was closed with no response.)

Long shot:
But my 97 GC shorted out repeatedly.
It was caused by the lighter. It had a piece of metal in it.
Look into disconnecting the lighter and see if it helps.
It's the same circuit.

Good Luck,
Tom

But if it were a dead short the lighter socket, that would blow the fuse regardless of the on/off status of the radio. If another radio is not helping, then I would explore things that turn on when the radio is turned on. It does turn on the factory amplifier. Try disconnecting everything from the new radio exept the power, and turn it on to see if the fuse blows.
