Hey all
Hoping to get some help with this one. Seems I have the dreaded "limp mode" prob and CEL on the dash

recently purchased so I don't really know service history on it but is a 1999 Dodge Caravan 3.3ltr with 225000 KMS

I just changed the fluid and filter with fresh +4 as the fluid was disgusting, not burned or black but more of a watery coffee colour yeah that scares me :YO: (I'm guessing that the tranny is getting coolant in it somehow??), however the new fluid seems to have made it better as it now will infrequently manage to shift into 3rd and OD. This has happened twice now on a quick trip down the road.
Going there it was only in 2nd, however after shut down and sitting for about 15-20 mins it was able to shift into 3rd and OD just fine as if nothing was wrong. CEL stayed lit though.

I haven;'t had a chance to try this again but one of the trips was to get a code reader from Princess Auto for $30 bucks :secret2:

So the codes that it comes up with are:

P1782 - 2-4 pressure switch sense circuit

P0700 - Trans Control sys malfunction OR internal TCM OR EATX Controller DTC present (i've seen this code listed differently in a few places so I didn;t know which one to use lol)

Sicne the tranny deffinately acted differently from just a fluid and filter change I'm on the fence and leaning towards fluid system problem as opposed to electrical. Would this be a good assumption>?
and from some of the other threads I've read up on the correct course would be a new solenoid pack as opposed to the In\Out Speed sensors which seem to be a pretty common source of ache aswell.

Yes,that code usually means a bad solenoid pack,or a bad wire/connection from the solenoid pack to the trans computer. Welcome to Dodge Talk!:D

thanks for the welcome and advice

Any thoughts on the colour of the fluid, is there even a way that coolant could get into the tranny fluid or maybe there was a wrong type of fluid in there?

It is hard to say without actually seeing it. Coolant gets into the trans via the tranny cooler in the radiator having a leak.

just remembered to finally update this thread.
Shifting issues have been resolved with the new solenoid pack and I went ahead and replaced the two sensors at the same time.
Very easy replacement for a DIy'r, took only about 2 hours in 0deg weather and some messing around with cleaning the engine compartment as well

oh and thanks again to tactransman for you great posts here and elsewhere, very helpful
