This thing has been a royal PITA since I bought the truck. Its an 88 Ram 50 with the 2.6L motor.

I really need a replacement accelerator pump for the carb, but everytime I try to find parts, I can't, and I keep reading that most people suggest replacing the carb with a Weber.

If anybody knows where I can get the accelerator pump that would be great, if not point me towards the replacement parts.

Thanx,
Matt

Matt,

Try Eurasian Carburetor in Treadwell, NY at 1-800-292-1616. Be sure to have your carburetor numbers (these are the digits which are stamped in) ready when you call.

They will probably want to sell you a complete kit, but perhaps they have the accel. pump available separately.

Good luck.

Those carbs are junk, do yourself a favor and buy a Weber kit and throw that Mikuni away.

I`d agree w/ speed on this one....I also have an 88 power ram 50, bought it brand new, now is reading 150K miles......I had a few problems with running rich on mine, I just unhooked the gas line from fuel pump, ran her out of gas, then ran a line in a can of seafoam, and filled the carb with it, let it sit a couple hrs, then re-attached the gas line... It works for about 10 months.
When I bought it, the head mechanic at the dealer, told me to NEVER ATTEMPT TO TRY TO REPAIR THAT CARB...... EVEN IF REMOVING IT, AND IT TIPS OVER, OR LAYS ON THE SIDE, IT WILL RUIN IT....... I have heeded his advice this past 20 yrs.......If the frame dont rust out first, and if it ever gets to the point where the carb is useless, I will convert it to the weber, which I have heard nothing but good things....... good luck..

Moe,

Mikuni built automotive-spec carbs, too -- unforutnately.

They shared no design features in common with the 'cycle carbs.

Darrel Cox ran a Neon using 4 Mikuni motorcycle carbs. Not sure what that has to do w/ the topic, it just came to memory lol :)

Thanx guys,

again that is why I love this forum. Thank you for honest and truthful answers and a little miscellaneous knowledge about motorcycles and Neons and stuff.

:dtrocks:

I'll try the place in NY first Jeff and if nothing else turns up, I'll try to convert to a Weber. Anybody know the Weber carb model for the conversion?

Look up Top End Performance online, they sell everything required. You can also save some money by just buying the adapter plate and linkage, and getting a carb off an early carbed 2300 Mustang or Pinto engine, they are the same carb ;) The kit from Top End w/ brand new carb and all is about 400 bucks shipped, give or take a few.
