we replaced the the timing chains and water pump on an 02 intrepid with a 2.7. the vehicle keeps throwing a cam sensor code. replaced it with a new sensor but the code is still showing. replaced it again and still the same code. any ideas what would cause this?

the same vehicle also shows the cam is out of sync until the vehicle is started then it is fine. has anyone had either of these problems?

once started the vehicle runs and sounds exellent.

ok just test drove the vehicle. will not exceed 2500 rpms. excellerated hard from a dead stop and it ran strong until 2500 rpms then it was the same as if a rev limiter was set at 2500.

thanks

Either its mis-timed, or the reluctor ring on the left camshaft that the sensor reads is missing/damaged (from working on it), or there is a wiring issue between the crank and cam sensor. If the reluctor on the cam sprocket was replaced, you could have the wrong one, as there are 2 different styles.

It wont go over 2500 rpm because it is not receiving a signal from the cam sensor, and it doesnt know how to time the engine. The cam sensor does all the timing over 2500.
