transmission problem

I have a 1991 caravan only in the summer I can only go maybe 20 miles before the transmission acts up it sticks in 1st gear. also when its hot it wont go in reverse. If I let it set for maybe an hour it's like nothing ever happened it runs fine ,until it gets hot again. the minute the winter comes I can drive anywhere no problem summertime forget it. Any help or advice would be appreciated.

Sounds like it is going into fail safe mode. Just stop and turn off the van and restart. That will reset the computer. I had to have a 300 buck module replaced on mine to get it to shift
