problems w/ gauges

if the oil pressure and water temp gauge is not working right does it mean that the have that much pressure or the gauges dont work well.it is a 86 w/a 318 thanks

What are you getting for readings? Your temp should be somewhere between 160-190, depending on the thermostat, and at idle your oil pressure should be somewhere between 20 and 40, depending on if the oil pump is stock or not.
