My left side one rusted off my '87 Ram Charger W150. Anybody know anyplace that sells a repair part? I have a MIG welder and can do metal fab. I could just make something up out of a piece of pipe I'd guess. Doesn't look like much "meat" at the back corners of the bed for welding though.
Anyone done this before? Tailgate is fine, right side pivot looks OK...

Never fabed one up before, but I have gone to the junkyard before and cut one off another truck and then cut the same portion off of mine and used a mig to weld it back up, I grinded it smooth then painted it and unless you looked really close at it you would of never notice the difference. That was on a Chevy truck though, not a Dodge so I'm not sure on the meatiness of the metal in the corners, but I'm pretty sure you can do it.

Yeah, that's pretty much all you can do, short of buying a new tailgate...
I've had to weld mine up also, so I guess this is not an uncommon thing...

I don't know of any aftermarket sources but you might try Dodge to see if they are still available for $$$. It's looks like it's #16 in the pic below.
