Recently my B2500 drivers side mirror glass cracked in half. It's still viewable, but will not pass the required NY state vehicle inspection.

So, where do I get a replacement mirror glass and how to remove the broken one and install the newer one?

The dealer will be expensive, u can go to a glass shop and they cun cut one and install it for u for about 1/4 of the dealership price. Ive done that and I know of others that have also.

Preferably, I would like to just order the part and snap it in.

The older vans would be find for a glass cutter to replace the mirror, but the 1994-2003 types are different.

Ahhhhhhhhh!

Spending so much time finding a proper mirror for the van. The dealer wants more than an arm or leg for the right one. And collision shops are at the dealer mercy too.

CIPA-USA has mirrors up to 1997. For some reason, CIPA, the largest aftermarket mirror company can not produce this mirror due to patent issues.

RockAuto can't get this style of mirror either.

HOWEVER ...

Is this website legit offering this mirror ???
http://www.am-autoparts.com/AM/Mirrors/Dodge/VanFullSize

It's the only site I had found thus far. I could spend a few hundred dollars for the entire mirror assembly from the dealer or a mere $40 with FREE Shipping from this website. It's just that this website doesn't look too promising with very limited contact information.

This website is listed as an eBay store too. Does that count for anything being legit enough to do business with? This is the eBay review for them ... http://myworld.ebay.com/am-autoparts

Oh boy, this website is very bad news. They are a drop shipper with a SOLD AS IS policy. You get what they send you; good part, bad part, wrong part with no return policy. BUYER BEWARE.

Stev, you can go to Auto Zone or such and buy just the glass that sticks over the current one and will pass inspections for now until you get the proper mirror for your van. It is made from plexi glass but it does work. My van had one before I bought new ones which was due to the old ones moving every time I closed the doors and the previous driver of the van had put sheet rock screws in the cover to hold the mirrors, what a very dumb idea that was.

Steve...try 1A Auto. They are good to deal with.

Tried them only to find out that what is listed is for pre-1998 mirrors.

:(

Also called the AutoZone only to find out that the stick on mirror will not pass vehicle inspection in NY state.

I did find the OEM replacement here ...

Driver's side
http://www.moparpartsamerica.com/partlocator/index.cfm?action=searchCatalogOEM&siteid=214583

Passenger Side
http://www.moparpartsamerica.com/partlocator/index.cfm?action=searchCatalogOEM&siteid=214583

Passenger side costs a little more for the convex shape and engraved label to state that objects are closer than they appear.

After calling the dealer for the OEM replacement, Mopar Parts America is $10 less with shipping. :cheerl:

Your state inspections are harder to pass :tdwn: than here in TX. Is there rules about cracks in the windsheild as well?

I am sorry the idea would not work for you.

For my mirrors I paid $48.03 for both shipped to my front door. The right side is not convex, it is taking me some time to get use to.

Is this not your mirror?

Nate,

It's too difficult to evaluate that mirror as an OEM replacement. It looks like a Durango mirror or the Caravan mirror. There are now sizes mentioned nor OEM part number cross reference.

I'll investigate this further to determine the course of action needed to obtaining a mirror.

I had run their P/N 1AMRE00007, but every website refers back to 1AAuto.

Only the mirror glass needs to be replaced vs. the entire mirror assembly. If the van needed a full assembly replacement, then this is the best option.

There is an $18 difference just getting the mirror glass vs. the entire assembly.

Oh I see. I didn't know the van mirrors were that close to the Durango's.

I've gone ahead and ordered the OEM replacement mirror glass from www.moparpartsamerica.com

In my above posting, the links do not work for some reason.

At the link provided, P/N 5019891AA and the selection of DODGE will provide the part in the search for the LEFT DRIVERS mirror glass. P/N 5019890AA and select DODGE will provide the RIGHT PASSENGER mirror glass that is convex per DOT requirements.

The mirror arrived a few weeks ago, but I wasn't home due to a long business trip. Taking out the old mirror glass and replacing it was rather easy. I'll have a write up and some pictures to go with it shortly knowing that nothing like this in the forums exists ... yet. :)

As promised ... :gr_patrio

First lets see how the package came shipped from an on-line official Mopar parts center in Oregon.

- The front

- The back

Next, let's take a look at the broken mirror.

:teacher:
To take off the broken mirror from the mirror housing on the van, one must have two medium sized screw drivers. One screw driver as a flat blade and the other as a Phillips.

With one hand hold the top of the mirror housing and using the thumb, push the mirror inward into the housing. This will cause the bottom of the mirror to lean outward. Next, take the flat bladed screw driver at the bottom and pry just a little to allow the Phillips screw driver to fit into the gap. Once it is in, push the Phillips toward the back of the center of the mirror until it stops. Do NOT jam it into anything. Now, with ease of pressure, pry and lift the Phillips to pop the mirror out.

- With the mirror is out, it should look like this

:teacher:
To install the new mirror, just line it up in the housing and carefully press it in. ;)

That's all there is to it.

Cool! Look at the thumbnail of the mirror with the clouds in it. To me at least there is an illusion of the clouds moving.

:secret2:
When taking the picture, it was either me and my camera facing back or some other reflection. So, just placing the mirror on the ground looking up got the clouds.

The new mirror picture was taken on the dinning room table looking up at the ceiling.

Well that explains the cobwebs. :)
