How do you test if an upper strut mount is loose or damaged?
I get a clunk / pop noise when turning esp. when driving at idle speed.
I was chasing a scraping noise and found one of my front wheel hubs/ bearings broken.
I replaced both hubs and carefully followed the torque procedure for the axle nuts. (as close to the 180lbs as I can get, my wrench only goes to 150lbs.) I put on new rotors and calipers while I was at it. I immediately got the new clunking / popping sound. I tried replacing the sway bar bushings and both half-shafts. (Since I had been pushing / messing with them while replacing the hubs.) I had to open the tie rods and the ball joints when replacing the half shafts and they all look good. The sway bar end links look tight also. I'm wondering if jacking up the van could have allowed the upper strut to break or come loose, however I can find no looseness when I grab them and yank on the top of the strut. Also, could the new hub and rotor be the cause since that is when the noise appeared?
Help... any advice is appreciated. I'm running out of hair to pull.

I am having problems with the strut mounts on my 05 Grand Caravan. Mine makes a noise while turning the wheel and the vehicle is in park. If yours makes a noise while stopped and turning the wheel, have someone help you. I could feel the vibration in the tire as I turned the wheel. I could also see that the strut assembly would seem to catch and then break free, causing the "popping" sound.
I got a TSB print out from my local dealer. It states to jack the vehicle up so that the wheel hangs down. Pull the strut boot back. There is a special grease that you can get from the dealer to apply to the upper mount. I will inspect mine and apply grease on Saturday to see if this helps the situation.
