Hi all,
I've got a 1973 B200, 318, 2bbl, 3spd manual.
Engine has some holes that are 50lbs, some are 110lbs compression. Time to fix.
If it were you, would you rebuild it (I have skills/tools/place to do so) or is it easier to just find an already reman'd engine and swap? I don't particularly want to do hi perf stuff - just want to keep it stock. Sorta worried about finding individual parts to rebuild mine - thinking it'd be quicker and cheaper to get a reman'd engine - but which one? From what builder? Or am I wrong about the replacement parts situation?
Opinions? Good parts sources? Good reman engine sources?
Thanks for any input anyone would care to offer.

Way back, I rebuilt my own and it ended up costing me more then if I had bought a reman eng. I did have the satisfaction of pulling and rebuilding a complete engine though, and then hearing it fire right up.

I have used reman'd long blocks a few times over the years and have had good luck. I got one for my 84 van from Ontario Reman and it came with every single gasket and everything I needed except the intake and exhaust.

Depends on the price for the remanufactured engine.
A master rebuild kit here for $359 includes:

Pistons, Rings, Gaskets, Cam Bearings, Rod Bearings, Main Bearings, Oil Pump, Freeze Plugs, Camshaft, Lifters, Pre-lube, and Timing Set, and Valley Pan (if applicable).

50 and 110 pound. The 50 pound holes are most likely caused by exhaust valves that have worn into the heads. You will need a valve job that includes new exhaust valves, hard seats and probably guides. Get an estimate from a machine shop to help you decide as it can get costly.

So far, I checked on an ATK reman'd engine at NAPA for just under $1,700.00
It's here:
http://www.napaonline.com/MasterPages/NOLMaster.aspx?PageId=470&LineCode=ATK&PartNumber=DD03&Description=Engine%2c+Complete+-+Remfd
The next step is to do a correct leak-down test and get a better feel for what's really wrong with this motor.
Thanks for the posts so far, and if anyone has more sources or ideas or opinions - I'd love to hear them.

You will need a valve job that includes new exhaust valves, hard seats and probably guides.
Or you can pick up a couple of already remanufactured heads for around $150-$175 each if the machine shop want too much.

Got a suggestion as to where to find heads like what you're talking about?
NAPA?
Jegs?
somewhere else?
Thanks -

Back in the mid '80s it cost me $2000.00 to do my complete overhaul. I did go over board tho and used all top of the line parts. That also included maching the block, heads and crank. I did all the actual labor and reused crank and pistions. After I was done I did almost want to kick my-self, but like I said, I got the satisfaction of ripping it down and doing it all my self.
